Broke during first time use.

I bought this product a few weeks ago and just used it for the first time and it broke before I could even finish my lawn.

Scotts should be put out of business for selling such a poor quality product. My experience is the same as those who have also given 1 Star. Plastic rod to the wheel broke thus making the spreader unusable. Recycled last week. I wish I took pictures to publish. This is not the first time this has happened. I was looking to buy a new one only to find out there are hundreds who have the same shared experience.

Worked 1-1/2 times

My old Scott’s Spreader lasted 10 yrs so, went and bought a nice new one. I’m one of those that enjoys my 60 x 75 lawn. The new one last 1-1/2 times. I was spreading winter rye. Easy work and the right wheel fell off! On inspection, the axle assembly was worse than a child’s toy! Bad, don’t waist your money. In the photo, still has the sticker and the plastic pins during shipping.

No meaningful instructions. Nothing online about how to use the dial settings. No user manual available on line. Once you buy, you are on your own to figure out the rest.

We're happy to provide some tips that should help you use your new Scotts Turf Builder EdgeGuard DLX Broadcast Spreader.
Always fill your Scotts Turf Builder EdgeGuard DLX Broadcast Spreader on a flat surface. The setting to be used is dependent on the product being applied with the spreader, and as such, will be found on the package of the product itself or can be obtained by contacting Scotts Customer Service if not found on the package. Avoid streaks by slightly overlapping each spreading pattern by approximately 1 1/2 feet. To achieve this, each pass should be about 5 feet apart from center of spreader to center of spreader. Engage the Edgeguard to avoid getting the product you're applying into unwanted areas. Use a walking speed of approximately 20 feet every 5 seconds (a brisk walk).

Short Cable Life Due To Cheap Design

Only a season and a half old and the Edgeguard control cable has already broken.
The design has several right angle bends in the central wire inside the lever housing to allow the wire to engage the actuating lever. No surprise that the wire broke at one of those sharp bends.
I could understand if the lever was being forced against a jam but that was not the case.

Not Worth the $---poor quality

Purchased last fall 2023 to spread fertilizer. This spring 2024 I noticed a grinding noise from rt wheel. Went to spread Grub-X this past week (June) and spreader worked intermittently. Heard grinding noise again. Also, Edge guard handle stopped working (Heard a snapping sound within the handle component), so I had to move the dial by hand. Removed the plastic orange hub cap to check the rt wheel and noticed black slivers of broken plastic. Evidently the gears are made of cheap plastic material and don't hold up. I would definitely not purchase again. Lesson learned--read reviews. I had always purchased Scott spreaders in the past, but I guess they no longer emphasize quality.

Flimsy product pieces!!

I have had my spreader for about 2 years now and it was doing good until a few days ago. I mainly use use to spread fertilizer or lime. While I was using, I noticed nothing was sinking down like it would normally do. I came to see the plastic agitator loosened from the connector, cause it not to be flushed to the fill tank. Once placed back on, I continued about another 20ft for it to completely fall apart from the gear box. I can't understand how this could happen with basic granules. I take care if my equipment after every use, so it's not like I was careless.
