Good spreader, with one major problem

This is a good spreader, but the design has a major flaw. Even if the "Edgeguard" is fully retracted (i.e. "Off"), the green plastic support under the spreader STILL blocks seed spreading on that side. So you end up with two or three times as much seed on the left as you do on the right. It does NOT broadcast the seed evenly across a 5 foot path, as it claims to do.
When they designed this, didn't they put some grass seed in it and TRY it to see if it worked??? I'm very, very disappointed in Scotts, and this is a classic example of the decline in quality of American manufacturing. Now I'll have to get under the spreader and cut off some of the plastic parts to force it to work properly, and eventually buy another spreader - but it won't be a Scotts.

Terrible spreader

I be had this spreader for 3 seasons and I’ve tried every trick to get even spread of fertilizer and end up with a striped or cross hatched lawn every time. I bought it without looking at reviews because I generally trust the Scott’s name, but they’re now MuD in my book. Do not buy this product!! Had I looked at the reviews I would have steered clear. I’m very disappointed that Scott’s would turn out a product so flawed!

Good for striping your lawn

Bought this a coupler yrs back , last few times of use have bad stripes . Appears the product get in the wheel ,builds up and does a fine job of striping the lawn :(

Terrible Item

I bought this a year ago and it does not dispence at the correct rate. I have 10,000 square feet of lawn and i use two 5,000 sq. ft. bags, the math is pretty simple. My old spreader was right on with the rate. It says on my new spreader to use 4-1/4 setting. I used 5 and it only used one bag for the entire lawn. I am not new to this, this spreader is seriously flawed. WHAT A JOKE!!!!!!!

Not like my old Scott spreader

Just used this spreader for the 2nd time this season. It replaced another Scott’s Edge Guard on which Edge Guard cable broke after about 10 yrs. of service. Not happy at all. My lawn is too big for 10,000 sq feet and too small for the 15,000 bag. I usually use two 5,000 sq foot bags and dial back the gage a little from recommended settings. Loaded spreader with the two 5,000 bags of summarizes. Bag states set at 3 3/4. I set it to
3 1/2. Nothing seemed to be coming out. Upped it to 4 still poor distribution. Did entire lawn lengthwise and had a bag and a half left over. When back over lawn width wise at 4 1/2 and still have over a bad left. Last time I used it I had strips which was probably my fault not being used to e new spread width. Cannot express just how disappointed I am right now with this spreader. Always have had good luck with Scott products but I would not recommend this one.

Edge guard is horrible!!!

I bought this spreader a couple of years ago. I thought I did something wrong. My entire lawn had stripes. Scott’s sent me a new part (very kind of them) problem is…I still have stripes. Only wants to shoot out the left side. I’ve been using Scott’s products for 30 years. First time I’ve been completely disappointed. Will not be buying another spreader with an edge guard.

Agitator broke, need replacement

I bought this item this spring. It does an ok (not great job), but only because I go over the lawn twice in a checkerboard pattern to minimize the application defects. The agitator (the little doohickey that spins around in the bottom) broke, now the unit doesn't work. I need a replacement but cannot find one anywhere.
