worst spreader ever made
on May 29, 2025

I paid a lot of money for this horrible made product! The dispensing door/slide sticks open and not only wastes a lot of expensive product but also ends up leaving a burnt and damaged lawn! Another design flaw are the wheels. The insides of them are open with nooks, like spokes. If one is using Scotts fine granular weed and feed, it accumulates a lot in these wheels - more wasted product. I DO NOT recommend this product.

Does not hold up.....RUST!

I've owned this spreader for 7 seasons. This year, the bracket connecting the hopper and the wheel rusted out at the wheel base. Got only 7 seasons! At 4 applications per season, that's only 28 uses. Plus, I only used Scott's products in the spreader. Hey Scott's, how about some replacement parts that can be ordered online?
Pros: Effective
Cons: didn't get the life usage that i expected.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Weeds and feeds products work very well in South Texas. And tuff builder is another great products I used that I will stand behind.
Pros: Easy to Use, Good Directions, Value, real simple to use if you read the direction.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Poor quality

I bought this 2 months ago and finally got a chance to use it. What a dissappointment. Weed and Feed called for a 3 1/2 setting. When I got done with my 10,000 sq ft yd, I had so much left over I didn't know what went wrong. I found out at setting of 4 1/2 should give a opening of a little less than a 1/4" I had put mine at a setting of 6 for 1/4" opening, but the spring loaded door sets in at such an angle that the other side of the opening was less than 3/16". As a result, I have a yard that looks like a green striped watermelon rind. After using my other Scotts spreader for more than 25 yrs, I never suspected a new one to have such a bad calibration.

Stripes

I bought this a year ago to replace and old Scotts spreader that worked great for many years. This thing is terrible. It leave stripes all over the place. I've never had this problem before. I thought maybe it was the spreader so I bought the smaller one this year - same results. I find it quite interesting that there is only one recent good review and many of the most recent reviews complain about the same issue.

Bad design causing lawn striping
on May 24, 2020

This is a badly designed spreader that does not spread evenly. The design concentrates most of the fertilizer near the wheels of the spreader, resulting in striping. Now that my entire large yard is badly striped and many broadleaf weeds are still present in the untreated stripes while using Scotts Triple Action a few weeks ago. I'm now forced to try to buy some kind of product which will only treat weeds with no added fertilizer component. Good luck with that....I identified Scotts Weed Control as a possible fix but, so far, is very difficult to find in even my large city. It also sports a very poor overall rating as evidenced by reviews. My fix will be to discard my over-priced Scotts Turf Builder EdgeGuard DLX broadcast spreader, (I would not want to sell it or give it away to friends or family because I know it's a very poor product), give my remaining Scotts fertilizer products to friends or family who will take them, uninstall my Scotts app, replace this spreader with another brand and, going forward, purchase Vigoro fertilizers and weed control products.

Design flaw
on May 31, 2020

Wish I would've read the reviews before I bought this spreader. How is it that one of the major leading brands of lawn care made such a design flaw? The spreading of fertilizer literally hits the wheels because they are taller than the spinning wheel and leaves lines in your yard. Other than Scott's Green Max, I'm done with all the rest of their products.

Spreader does not spread evenly, leaves yard with strips! I purchased the DLX spring 2020 to replace a very reliable Scotts spreader. Used the DLX twice, the second time applied fertilizer perpendicular at half the recommended rate, still stripped my lawn. Very disappointed in this product! As a leader in grass care products Scotts should be ashamed selling such a poorly designed product. Do not recommend purchasing!
