Scott's Marketing Decision

I used to be a loyal Scotts consumer. With Scotts marketing idea to reduce bag size and take price, I switched over to Vigoro and so glad I did, it is a great product as well. I wouldn't have switched but Scott's business decision made it an easy decision for me. Consumers read the package and notice when companies are trying to deceive them. Scott's name is not what it was for me now.

Overpriced and smaller bags

I’ve used this product on my lawn for years. I bet The bought each year for your extraordinary price increases and I did again this year However, I am incensed that you now charge more for smaller bags It is not obvious the bags are smaller at all I think I’m going to quit using Scott’s products now All I see is price gouging

Don't Apple if temp below 60

Whoa - burned my lawn within a week - in rainy Seattle surburb.
Buried in the feedback comments it says "temperature below 60 degrees will cause the lawn to go dormant. Fertilizer applications to a dormant lawn can cause severe damage." NO where does it give this warning on the package

Moved into my house mid May and have applied three different fertilizers as per Scott’s recommendations. In mid September I applied the winter deep root.

Smaller bag but at the same price!

I purchase Scotts Turf Builder products in the spring, summer and fall. Typically the stores have a 5000 sq ft bag or 15000 sq ft bag, I typically purchase the smaller bag to do my front lawn. I purchased the usual smaller bag this fall and spread the product on my front lawn but this time I ran out before covering my entire lawn! I then realized the bag is now 4000 sq ft instead of 5000 sq ft (20% less) but at the same price as last year! This has become common practice at reducing product size or quality but keeping the same price to try to fool the consumer. It is bad enough that Scotts Turf Builder product has gone up in price 20% each year for the past 3 years but now putting out smaller bags thinking no one will notice? Not impressed!

Stop whining and enjoy the results

The folks whining about the price/quantity will still pony-up because it is one of the few products outside of Clorox bleach and Jack Daniels whiskey that lives up to the hype. By the way, used your Summer Guard formula this year and it proved to be a revelation. Kudos!

Application rate is wrong

I use a Scotts Deluxe EdgeGuard and had the same problem with the application rate that others have posted. I use a 5' plastic pipe to measure the spacing between each pass and used only 5lbs to cover a 80'x50' area, i.e. 4000sqft. In 2021 and 2022 using the same spreader, I used 1/2 of a 15K bag to cover 7500sqft broadcast at 4.5 each year. This was the correct rate for that bag. What changed?
