Really is Miracle Grow!

This is a great product..Watering less is always a plus, especially here in California. I don't have to constantly check my plants to make sure they aren't dry. Love this moisture control plus it has everything I need when planting, don't have to buy fertilizer or other adds. Wen transplanting, little to no signs of stress.
Pros: Easy to Use, Effective, Good Directions, Value, Quality

Have used this product since it came out and loved it. It really saved on watering during the hot parts of summer. Recently though I purchaced more and notice the design on the bag was different but what I didnt know they changed the potting soil. Its mostly bark now. I have several plants in my greenhouse that is potted in moisture control I had left over from last year. I only have to water them every 2 days but the plants potted in recently purchased potting soil is dried out after 1 day. Guess I'll have to switch brands. Extremely let down on the quality of the product now.

Cons: Didn't work as expected

I bought this soil because I thought it would help with the over watering of my plants, well I have noticed over the last couple of days that mold has been growing on the top of my soil... I have bought other products from miracle grow before and never had this problem, only with the moisture control.. any feed back you could give me as to why this is happening I would gladly change my rating!! thank you

We are sorry to hear you are disappointed. Composted soil and mulch by nature can develop mold and fungus. These organisms help break down the organic material so that plants can use the nutrients. Neither fungi nor molds that break down dead organic matter harm growing plants. Sometimes in the moist and dark environment of the package, there will be an overgrowth of these fungi or molds. While it may be unattractive, it does not pose a risk to plants. Once the product is mixed into the existing soil and/or is exposed to sunlight and allowed to dry out, the mold should not be an issue. Scoop out any visible fungus, discard and replace with fresh soil.

What a fantastic product!

I had half of my plants potted with Miracle Grow Moisture Control and half of them with some generic brand soil. After a huge rainstorm only my Miracle Grow plants weren't swimming in their pots. The other guys soil was literally a pool of muddy water. I ended up switching out the soil so that all of my plants are in Miracle Grow.
On a side note, neither of my dogs go after the soil so that last review is definitely a special case.
Pros: Value, Quality, Easy to Use, Effective

I have used this product the last three years for my geranium plants I keep through the winter. I repot them all in new moisture control soil and results are much better than other products I have tried. The results are nice full plants and with the miracle-gro bloom buster we get a lot of bright blooms. My wife and I do about 50-75 plants every year and this improved our survival rate at near 100%.

I have really great containers of flowers and I owe my success to MiracleGro Moisture Control Potting soil. It is a fine soil that fertilizes throughout the summer. Moisture retaining crystals swell up when damp and helps the plant to stay hydrated even though the soil gets dry on a hot day. I buy 12 of the 55 quart bags each year. I get prize winning flowers every year. I count on MiracleGro.

Great for growing gnats

I cannot tell you how long I have used Moisture Control Miracle-Gro soil in my garden. But recently, I have noticed the soil is not really soil. It looks and feels like ground up tree bark for the most part. But the worst thing is the gnats. A few days after getting the bags of Miracle Gro put out in the garden bed, and the plants in the ground, I had gnats covering the ground, flying in my face, and even showing up in my house. What has happened at Miracle-Gro. If the company is cutting costs, it shows in the greatly reduced quality of your products. Time for a new company that provides sterilized, real soil (not wood products).

We are sorry to hear about your experience when using Miracle-Gro Moisture Control Potting Mix. Insects could not survive the composting and packing process. However, it is possible for them to enter the bag during shipping and storage. Fungus gnats do little plant damage. Allowing the soil to dry out as much as possible between watering will help control the larvae.

Terrible, waste!

This year the gnats and mild are terrible in your soil! Don’t give me this crap that they crawl in the holes during shipping, you have a problem and you need to fix it. I have been reading all the reviews over the years. Other brands don’t have this issue. Wish I had of thought to check online first, I wasted a lot of money this year already and have more plants to do, guess what I won’t be purchasing for those...
