I always buy the moisture control mix for my container plants. Last year, I recommended it to my mom, so she bought it. She told me how terrible it was and I couldn't understand it. The bags I bought were great! I bought some more this year, and now I know exactly what she was talking about. There is a lot of mulch mixed in and I also found some mold in my bag, along with other large random hard chunks. It is completely different from the bags I bought last year. I bought 4 bags having convinced my mom to give it another try. 2 for each of us and I totally regret it.
Cons: Didn't work as expected
Pros: Easy to Use, Value
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Have used this product for years, bought several 2 cu ft. bags this year to use in my floral container gardens. The makeup of the product does not appear to be the same, won't settle or pack around plants when potting and turns to a mud consistency, drowning the plants.Since I still have a couple of the bags I will purchase another type of soil and mix to try to use it.
Cons: Didn't work as expected
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Avoid At All Costs

I bought this stuff for some potted plants on my patio, and it was a huge mistake. Almost immediately, this potting mix started holding in way too much water, even in direct sun and 90+ heat. This soil was drowning my plants, and I was hardly watering them because this soil was holding in so much water. I’ve since removed this soil from my pots and replanted my plants, but I’m afraid it might have been too late. When I removed my plants and discarded this soil, it was so wet that I could literally wring it out in my hands. This, after I hadn’t watered the plants in over a week with the hopes of drying out the soil some (because the plants liked MOIST but well drained soil). I fear that three of my plants are beyond saving, which is extremely disappointing. I absolutely would not recommend this potting mix.

I recently bought this soil to help with my aloe before reading reviews. I then read reviews and started to get scared because i did not want gnats to take over my houseplants! I found a trick online to make sure i didn’t have gnats ( which i did not have them). This soil saved my aloe! I was overwatering I assume, and there is so many new healthy roots! and my aloe is thick and no longer looks sad. as for the comments regarding the soil staying wet, I found that leaving the bag open for a few days let’s it dry out some before use in a pot!
Pros: Easy to Use, Effective
I would recommend this to a friend!

I have used their rose product for decades and have never had a problem. Nothing but beautiful blooms.
I used the moisture control potting mix last year and I am livid. Every plant in there nothing but suffered. I would like a full refund. I purchased 5 bags.
Cons: Didn't work as expected, Problem with label, Messy

Helps get your yard ready

With the weather being good, we started clearing off some of our backyard. This potting mix helped us as we were getting rid of weeds, dandelions etc and are trying to grow some beautiful, green grass. It was easy to put down and spread across our large backyard. So far with grass seed I am seeing some green emerge from the fertilizer and dirt. It already looks better than before. I think anyone trying to reset their yards should check this product out.
Pros: Good Directions, Easy to Use, Quality, Value, Effective
I would recommend this to a friend!

Potting Sludge
on September 16, 2020
Posted by: Erin
This product claims to protect against over & underwatering. False. This will protet your plants if you only water them once a month, or maybe if they're outside in full sun 24/7. When you add water to this mix, it turns to sludge and takes days- sometimes weeks (yes, really, WEEKS) to dry out. The plants are all in containers with drainage holes, pebbles at the bottom, and I amended the potting mix with extra perlite. I left some of my houseplants in the sun for three days after watering and the soil is still sopping wet. I wouldn't even trust watering from the bottom. I repotted my dracaena with this a month ago and I'm so upset because I either have to transplant her again and risk damaging her root system, or leave her in the sludge and hope against all hope she doesn't get root rot. A complete waste of time and money.
Cons: Didn't work as expected
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

What is in my soil?!?!

Hello, I opened up a new bag of miracle grow moisture control potting soil and this was all on the top. No sure if it’s a fungus/mold or eggs. Definitely clumps together with mold like hairs but then the white round things so not sure. What is this!?
Response from Miracle-GroBy AgentConsumer Service September 28, 2020
Alex, we are sorry that you are disappointed with your purchase of Miracle-Gro® Moisture Control® Potting Mix, fungal/mold spores (including mushroom producing fungus) are a natural part of soils. It just takes the right conditions for the spores to develop into a fungus or mold. The mold only becomes a problem if there is an overgrowth. Overgrowth occurs when the soil is too wet. For soil not used yet, allow it to dry out on some newspaper outside before using. For soil already in use, allow the plants to dry out a bit between watering. It will not hurt the plant to allow the soil to dry between watering but will typically eliminate any mold/fungus growth, which needs the extra moisture. If you are not completely satisfied with this product, please reach out to us at https://tinyurl.com/y9nlw5xl to discuss our product guarantee.
