Bad for plants

I thought I was buying good soil...I bought 18 large yellow bags last year. I sell plants as a hobby, everything was going good till I bought this soil. It is just like a bag of peat moss. Killed cuttings and now it’s killing my repotted plants. It might be good if you mixed it with some pine bark or perlite... anything. I’m disappointed, and so are my customers.

This year I bought several different miracle gro potting soils. The only they did was kill my 30 year old jade tree. Unless that is covered under your guarantee, I will never go near one of your products again. Obviously I will not recommend your products to anyone. This is also aside from the house full of gnats and the various types of molds and fungi that do grow in this junk. I can not even begin to list the number of other plants that have been damaged.

Fungus gnat infested soil

I just quarantined and soon threw away four plants I recently potted up using this product. Brand new bag, and every re-potted plant infested with fungus gnats and (most likely) their eggs. I have a sun-room of plants I don't need infested. This is the second time I have tried this product over the years. Same results. I won't forget this time.

No control over moisture

I bought this and I tested how fast it would drain the water. On the bag, it stated that it drains 33% slower than other soils, but when I tested it, it was faster than the other soils I had.

We are sorry that you are unhappy with your purchase of Miracle-Gro Moisture Control Potting Mix. It is possible that the soil was allowed to dry out too much during the shipping and storage process. When our soils dry out, they become naturally water-repellent due to the peat moss and organic materials that are an important part of the soil mixture. We want you to be aware that we do back our product with a product guarantee. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you would like to speak further about this. HORRIBLE! Caused root rot for 6 of my plants!

I have been buying Miracle Gro products for all of my planting needs. This was my first time purchasing the Moisture Control Potting Mix and unfortunately I bought the 25 QT bag that I will now be trashing! I recently bought 2 Allocasia Amazonica, an English Ivy, and wanted to repot 3 of my rubber plants. I used the Moisture Control potting mix. The temperature in my house is kept at 67-69 all day. I repotted/potted all my plants the first week of December in planters with drainage holes and did not pat the soil down hard at all. Around 3 weeks later my leaves were beginning to turn yellow, wilting, dead, or falling off. I checked the soil and it was still completely WET. I gave it another week but the soil was still dark, dense, and wet as when i first watered it. I finally decided to take all my plants out of the planters. The roots of my plants were turning black and mushy from root rot! The soil was so wet still that I had to scoop the soil in order to get it out of the planter because it was so stuck. I tried to repot my plants in the Miracle Gro Cactus Palm Citrus soil but it was too late. My english Ivy and both my Amazonica died from root rot and I'm currently trying to revive my rubber plants. By far the worst soil ever. This soil absorbs water to the point where it does not air out. Wasted money on the soil and the plants for me.

I bought this moisture control potting mix, hop it works ok. Have had problems in the past with Miracle Gro (the regular, I think) and it seems it always had bugs..I will spray with insect repellent or some dish soap mixed with water if it happens with this. Won't recommend at this time due to past experience with Miracle Gro products.

Nats, Nats, and MORE NATS.

I bought 2 bags of different kinds of your potting mix. Both bags have infested my house with Nats. And as I'm reading here, I see this is a huge issue. 65 house plants, and I re potted a large number of those with your dirt, to only get Nats! In EVERY POT I reported in. Both cactus mix and regular potting soil. I'm very upset as now this is a huge costly mess in my house. I'd advise you start sterilizing your soil.

We are sorry to hear of your experience with Miracle-Gro Moisture Control Potting Mix. The soil you purchased is a natural product. While we do not sterilize the soil it is composted to kill any harmful insects and microbes. Unfortunately, soils may become infested with insects while in storage or while they are waiting for sale. In some cases, soils become infested with fungus gnats. Fungus gnats enter the bagged product through the tiny air holes in the bag that are necessary for the soil to "breathe". We would recommend to allow the soil to dry as much a possible between waterings. You can also control the gnats by applying 1/2 of sand to the top of the soil. The sand should be left for several weeks. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience please contact us to see what can be done. You may visit our contact page at https://tinyurl.com/y9nlw5xl

Too much foreign material

I just purchased the Miracle Grow moisture control and much to my dismay, I clearly feel some coconut husk called coir in it. This is foreign material to my Canadian soil and I never use it . Also, much wildlife habitat is destroyed in order to make the coir and I don't agree with that either. I will be returning your product and will be sure not to purchase it again. Please be more mindful of this when you create your products.
Cons: Didn't work as expected
Pros: Easy to Use
