Stay away from this stuff, it's a plant killer.

If you want to kill your plants, this stuff will do it. My wife and have been gardening for over 40 years, we are in our middle 60's. This stuff will not drain. It retains the water for an extremely long time. We have lost over $30.00 in plants this summer. We are not upset about the cost, we are upset over the dying plants... we don't kill plants. This stuff will look like it is completely dry, but when tested with a moisture meter we found that the roots are drowning in water. I guess it would be great for bog plants, but for plants where you water and expect the water to drain, it never happens. In order to save the plants we had to throw away the moisture control and re-pot with regular Miriacle Gro soil, which does an excellent job. I never in my life thought I would have anything bad to say about a Miracle Gro product, we could always count on Miracle Gro for a great product, however this stuff is a nightmare.
Cons: Didn't work as expected

Really pleased with using this product in planting my flowers.

I tried out this planting soil for the first time this year. My plantings of annuals look great, and I feel reassured they will stay that way, now we are going into the hottest and driest part of summer.

Lost my business after 35 years

For decades I have been using Miracle Gro potting soil in the green bag to start my seedlings and container plants. This year I could only find the new Moisture control in the blue bag so went with that. This has been the worst gardening season ever. The seedlings that I transplanted into your product never grew! 6 months later the tomato plant was still 1 inch high. I transplanted the 1 inch plants into my garden eventually and they grew fine. All of my container plants have died when I used your product. Every year I win multiple ribbons at the state fair for veggies and flowers, this year I won't have anything to enter! Don't you test these new products before you unleash them on the marketplace??? Obviously you have many problems with this product. Do something about it!

very bad product

Both plants I used this in died a horrible death. Their suffering was difficult to watch. But seriously, this product killed my plants faster than I could believe. When I finally took them out of the pots the soil smelled like something had crawled in there and died! This mix came out of the bag wet and heavy. I only watered one time because the mix stayed so wet with water pooled on the top.....for 2 weeks....in Florida! I tried to drain the water off daily but it was just too wet.....who has to drain water? My plants died during that 2 week period and I have had these two for a few years. I only repotted them because I thought it would make watering easier. Well I for sure didn't need to water but one time. Did I mention the stench? Yeah I won't be buying or recommending this product.

Cons: Bad Odor, Didn't work as expected, killed plants

The growing media product you purchased does not inherently contain harmful substances. While it is not sterilized, Miracle-Gro Moisture Control Potting Mix has undergone a composting process that kills most harmful microorganisms while allowing beneficial microorganisms to survive. Note that organic products can become infested with harmful fungi or insects once they are opened and used. For this reason, we recommend contacting your local nursery about the problem you experienced with your plants. They can help you to determine if disease, insects, or other environmental factors have played a role in the problem you have experienced.
To discourage root rot due to improper drainage, we strongly recommend using the correct organic product for the planting job. Topsoils, manures, and garden soils are designed to be mixed with the native earth in outdoor planting beds. They are not for use in containers. Likewise, potting soils are for growing plants in containers. They will not perform their best when used for outdoor, in-ground plantings. Further, our potting soils may contain a wetting agent that allows the soil to stay moist longer. For this reason, check the level of soil moisture first before watering your plants. The planting container should contain a drainage hole to allow excess water to escape.
