FUNGUS GNAT INFESTED!!!

I purchased (3) bags of your Miracle-Gro® Moisture Control® Potting Mix - 55 qt. , all were infested with (FUNGUS GNATS). I have been a loyal patron of your products for many years but not anymore. The quality of your potting mix has become so poor I can no longer use it. Please do any or all of the following, improve your quality control, add a disclaimer that it may harbor plant killing insects, or provide free gantrol.

All organic soil products and mulches manufactured by Miracle-Gro, including Moisture Control Potting Mix are natural based and do not contain any pesticides to limit insects and other organisms. The raw materials used in these products are produced in natural environments and therefore contain many microorganisms and insects, which are present in nature.
Soil products are generally composted to reduce insect populations by natural heating processes. Most plant damaging insects are controlled in this way, but are not eliminated. In fact, it is entirely possible that insects can lay their eggs in raw material stockpiles or even packaged products (through tiny bag vent holes) long after the heating phase of the product has passed.

I just love Miracle Grow Potting Mix!! It helps my plants grow and be healthy all the time. I wont have to water my plants everyday. I have noticed the difference between Miracle grow potting mix and other potting mix. This potting mix just makes my life easy.........will never buy anything else.

Gnats

I bought this a few months ago. I had gnats in a plant that used it. After taking measures to avoid watering and adding pebbles as a topsoil cover the issue went away. I then noticed that the issue spread to several other plants. after a couple months I realize that this is only with the plants that are potted in this product (there are over 20 houseplants in my home). This product holds way too much moisture, I also lost some plants to root rot. I will never buy this again.

Pros: Easy to Use

Mold and root rot

This soil is horrible. I have a green thumb and my pots Always look great. Then I tried the moisture control potting soil and my flowers are hanging by a thread. My dirt is covered with mold and the Roots don’t dry out enough to get oxygen.

Only potting mix I will use

I have had total success using this potting mix. My first variegated peperomia is over 40 years old; my first Christmas cactus is 15 years old; all my houseplants are thriving. I give them thorough watering once every 3 weeks (occasionally every two weeks, in August). Even lemon balm thrived for years, though it needed more frequent watering of course.
Pros: Easy to Use, Quality, Effective

Too many mushrooms

I bought this and within a few days of using it, mushrooms started popping up like crazy and when I opened the bag back up, they were even growing inside the bag of soil. I know it's a sign of healthy soil and all that, but they're crowding out my poor chamomile seedlings and I can't get rid of them without hurting the seedlings. I'm not going to want to use chamomile for tea that's been growing with mushrooms either so it's been a really disappointing experience and I'll have to find some better potting soil.

The mushrooms actually help break down the organic material in the Miracle-Gro Moisture Control Potting Mix so that plants can use the nutrients. While at times unattractive, mushrooms that develop on growing media do not pose a risk to plants, people or pets. They develop when the surface of the growing media stays wet too long.
Once the Miracle-Gro Moisture Control Potting Mix has dried out some, the mushrooms should subside and typically will not re-emerge unless the soil becomes excessively wet. Placing the plants in a sunny area with as much sunlight as the plant can tolerate will help accelerate the processes of getting rid of the mushrooms and reduce the chance of it coming back.

It prevents over watering as well as help with drying out too fast. My plants seem to thrive more than ever. Check out my Inpatients flowers,and Banana Tree which are grown in only Miracle Gro Moisture Control Soil.
