Never Again

I tried Moisture Control in my containers for the first time this year. Bought tons of the stuff (I have lots of containers). Never again. None of my container plants are thriving. Lots of yellow leaves (too much water). Stunted growth. Terribly disappointed.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Soil never dries and plants rot

As mentioned by other reviewers, my plants are dying with this soil. I bought several bags this year. Things i tpyically grow with ease, such as Mandevilla and vinca, have all died, regardless of light, location, and amount of water. The soil is very slow to dry. I use a moisture meter to check daily levels daily. I have always preferred Scotts soil, but something is not right with the moisture control blend.
Cons: Didn't work as expected

Mushrooms!!!

I was very disappointed in the bag of potting soil I purchased and after reading some of these reviews, I really have to question what goes into the potting soil. I have multiple plants and all of them have mushrooms growing that I have to dig out, and a lot of mulch. Honestly, the twigs and little mulchy things don't bother me, but I hate coming home almost every day to dig out little brown mushrooms from all of my plans. I thought at first that the plants were over-watered or picked up spores from somewhere ... so I let them dry out. Didn't work. Then I re-potted all of my plants and out of curiosity I actually sorted through a few handfuls of soil. I pulled out enough mushrooms spoors (straight from the bag!) to start my own mushroom farm. Needless to say, I have been very annoyed by all of this. If this is the kind of quality I can expect from MiracleGro, I definitely won't be purchasing any more.

We apologize for the mushrooms that you have found growing in your Miracle-Gro Moisture Control Potting Mix. Our soils are natural composted products that have not been sterilized or treated with any chemicals to kill off resident fungi or bacteria. Compost by nature will develop mold/fungus, some of which will develop mushrooms. Mushrooms are the fruiting bodies/reproductive parts of fungi that can naturally occur in all growing mediums. These naturally occurring fungi help break down the organic material so that plants can use the nutrients in the compost. The fungi that break down dead organic matter do not harm growing plants You can simply pull the mushrooms out and dispose of them.

A little worried

I found that after using Miracle-Gro moisture Control potting soil all my potted plants have mushrooms growing in the pots. I also noticed in sifting through the soil in the bag there are a lot of white root like things in it. This is the first time I have used this product and I'm very disappointed in it. I will not use the "Moisture Control" again.
Pros: Easy to Use
Cons: Didn't work as expected, mushrooms growing in my plants.

Last season I purchased this compost for my hanging baskets and window boxes, they were sensational. Does what it says - i.e. grows plants twice as big! I am converted, you get what you pay for!

Best Potting Mix Around

Miracle-Gro Moisture Control Potting Mix is the only potting mix I will use for my flowers and plants. The potting soil helps prevent over and under watering, feeds my plants for up to six months, and overall, helps make all of my plantings look great! A great product overall!
Pros: Easy to Use, Effective, Good Directions, Value, Quality, protects plants, feeds plants, helps prevent over and under watering

The bags soak up rain like a sponge and are way too heavy to mess with. Not to mention they reek like a manure and are filthy. Why are these not required to be kept covered ?

Convenient, but breeds nasty flying gnats

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Sweepstakes entry. I bought this product to pot cuttings after they root. Easier than mixing my own, retains moisture, and Miracle Grow is a name I trusted. The problem was that within 10 days, little flying gnats appeared and started buzzing around the plants. They were very annoying and kept coming. I finally succumbed to using flying insect spray in the area of the plants, and sprayed top top of the soil with it, I had to repeat the treatment a few times, but finally the gnats were gone. I wish Miracle grow had sterilized the product before selling it.

Cons: breeds fungus gnats
