Stay away if you don't want fungs gnats

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This potting soil is the worst! I used the regular Miracle Grow potting soil for years with great results, but this potting soil has resulted in an infestation of fungas gnats in my home.
I will never buy this again.
Cons: fungus gnats

We are sorry to hear of your experience with Miracle-Gro Potting Mix. The soil you purchased is a natural product. While we do not sterilize the soil it is composted to kill any harmful insects and microbes. Unfortunately, soils may become infested with insects while in storage or while they are waiting for sale.
The following are some tips that should help:
Allowing the soil to dry out as much as possible between watering will help control the larvae.
Applying at least 1/2 inch of sand on top of the soil of potted/container plants. Larvae cannot burrow through the sand and will die. Sand should be left on the container for several weeks, until the problem is solved. Sand does not have to be removed, but if consumer wishes to remove it, dispose of it by recycling in a garden, landscape or lawn area.
For instances where the soil is still in the bag, you can simply spread it out in a box and allow it to dry out completely (if in the summer, you can set it outside in the sun).
Another option is to sterilize the soil which we do not promote doing as this kills all the beneficial microbes in the soil

Miracle Grow products work wonders in Container Gardens

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have a container garden and I grow many different vegetables including tomatoes, cucumbers, squash , eggplant, etc. I have been using both Miracle Grow potting soil and Miracle Grow tomato food for many years. My plants are very healthy and produce a bumper crop each year. I gave up planting in the ground since I can water and feed my crops exactly to the specifications on the Miracle Grow labels. MY crops don't compete with the weeds and the ingredients in these products give me very healthy and disease resistant vegetables. I have encouraged my family and neighbors to use the Miracle Grow products to help them have successful results.
Pros: Easy to Use, Effective, Good Directions, Value, Quality

great soil...not the best for dogs.

This soil works great! Good for plants of all kinds. However, my dog is really attracted to it and keeps trying to eat it in large mouthfulls. I am really hoping it doesn't hurt her, since I bought a huge bag of it....
Pros: Easy to Use, Effective
Cons: not the best for dogs

My potted plants looked very good right up to frost, and the soil does hold moisture longer than regular potting soil.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I planted 3 hibiscus plants. 2 with another product and 1 with Miracle Grow. The one planted with Miracle Grow soil is 5 times the size of the other 2 plants. It also has many more blooms on it. The plant itself is stronger and healthier than the other 2 plants. I will not use any other soil again

Works well. I have a pot w/o any bottom holes outside growing some cilanro, garlic, and green onions. All growing well and even after a hot day the soil was more moist than my garden's soil. I think it draws water up from lower in the pot very well. I water it every so often. Since there is no hole in the bottom, even this product won't prevent flooding if I water too much.
I filled some holes in my garden with the stuff and it popped up a few mushrooms after a lot of watering. They went away after I pulled them out though.
I'm not exactly picky about my dirt as long as stuff grows in it.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great for shipping plants

Great for shipping plants! It holds the moisture in the soil so when my plants arrive at their new homes they are ready to plant and less stressed. I saves me so much in shipping because I do not have to use twice as much soil to hold the amount of water needed to ship. And I recommend it to all my over waters so they have less chance of rotted roots. LOVE IT!

I've been using it for about 14 or 15 years now and within the past 3 to 5 years it has gotten worse and worse as a product. You're finding big pieces of tree bark, big rocks, were in there and what looks like undissolved pieces of cardboard. It used to be a very good product but lately I would not use it for anything this is my last bag of it that I will ever buy.
Cons: Didn't work as expected, Difficult to use, Messy
Pros: Good Directions
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
