Horrible Potting Soil
on June 13, 2016
Posted by: Lalala
Worst Potting Soil I ever bought. Been growing houseplants for years and I am pro at it. bought this Soil to replant some plants, a week later, I have MOLD growing on the top soil of my plants, I removed it etc. Weeks went by, and I noticed my plants are not really growing anymore, could not figure out why ? Took one plant out of its pot and I noticed the soil is completely wet. Can only be a matter of time before the roots begin to die :(
Cons: Didn't work as expected

We apologize for the mold and fungus that you have found in your Miracle-Gro Moisture Control Potting Mix. Composted soil and mulch by nature can develop mold and fungus. These organisms help break down the organic material so that plants can use the nutrients. Neither fungi nor molds that break down dead organic matter harm growing plants. Sometimes in the moist and dark environment of the package, there will be an overgrowth of these fungi or molds. While it may be unattractive, it does not normally pose a risk to plants. Once the product is mixed into the existing soil and/or is exposed to sunlight and allowed to dry out, the mold should not be an issue.

What’s in the bag? NOT the quality soil I used to use & love

Have used Miracle Grow products since I was a little girl growing up and now 5 decades later am disappointed to say something’s wrong. Wouldn’t be looking on this website for comments if I weren’t experiencing a problem. Contents/matter contained in the 2 different size bags is way different and thinking I’d save money and trips of lugging in many bags of smaller potting mix (as I do container gardening on my deck).
Why the noticeably different contents??? Small bag is moist and dark and the 55 qt bag is dry, full of “stuff”. Terribly disappointed and have lost my trust in a product/company that was like it’s name - consistently miraculous results.
Going shopping today for another company…Soooo disappointed Miracle-Gro. You’ve lost my trust and (from what I read here) another loyal and formerly delighted customer. It’s sad - another “institution” and reliable product line bites the dust.
Cons: Bad Odor, Didn't work as expected, quality in the toilet, dry & questionable contents
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

my brother, a landscape architect, turned me onto Miracle Grow soils ages ago. I have since moved from the northeast to southeast and have had to change my way of gardening. This moisture control is perfect my all my plants propagating in pots to fill my still spotty areas. Thanks for a great product

Fungus Knats

Bought miracle grow potting soil for the second year in a row to replace soil in container planter. First time my petunias died noticed Knats flying around them and researched that it could be fungus knats. Replaced soil second year with miracle grow again and same problem. Pretty sure miracle grow is the problem!
Cons: plants dying
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We're saddened to hear about your negative experience with the product. Fungus gnats are very common, and feed off of the fungus that grows naturally in the soil. While it is impossible for gnats to survive the processing of the soil and bagging of the product, it is possible for them to enter the packaging during shipping or storage at the retailer depending on how long it is there before being purchased. While annoying, the gnats will not harm your plants. To prevent this from continuing to happen, be sure to allow the soil to completely dry between waterings.

I bought this for my plants and everything I planted in it died in 6 to 8 week. Petunias hanging baskets all 4 died. Succulents all 7. Gloxinias 2.

Works for my small garden.

Ok this was the second time purchasing this Miracle-gro Moisture Control Potting Mix and I know it is supposed to be used in a planter or planter beds, but I use it in my in-ground garden. And for my garden this has been wonderful, my garden is very small and that’s the reason I use it in my in-ground garden because it’s just like a large planter. Anyways this Miracle-gro Moisture Control Potting Mix has made my garden look so beautiful. My flowers are much larger then when I use other brands of planting mix, and if I got a few days without watering my flowers they still stay moist because of the Miracle-gro Moisture Control Potting Mix retains water. I have used many products from Miracle-gro and this is one of my new favorites. I will continue to purchase this Potting Mix every six months and I will keep adding it to my plants in my little garden.
Pros: Good Directions, Easy to Use, Quality, Value, Effective
