Terrible!!!!

I have used miracle grow for many years. This last year I have bought multiple bags, and it's horrible! The bags are infested with millions of plant gnats and larvae. I have lost hundreds of dollars worth of plants. Will never buy again!!

This is the first Miracle Grow product that I've been unhappy with. I bought FOUR large cubic feet bags - for all my pots & a few inground new perennials. It is absorbing too much water - the planters are requiring daily (at least!) soaking watering. These are large planters, filled with quality items & it's been a nightmare trying to keep the plants from wilting - and it's still May in New England. Upset.
Cons: Didn't work as expected
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This Potting soil is not like it used to be :(

I have Been purchasing Miracle-Gro Products for as long as I can remember and I am 48. I have purchased other brands and they never compared till now. I purchased 10 bags 2cu. moisture control, Opened them and all I could smell is sawdust. I was very disappointed but still I thought they would still be ok. All my plants I have grown from seeds veg, flower, herb & fruit, I am very proud. My kids say I have a green thumb with the midis touch. Transplanted pretty much all. Soil if that what you want to call it is not holding water, my plants are dying.
Cons: Bad Odor, Didn't work as expected, truly disappointed, sawdust isn't soil

This mix killed my 1 - 4 year old plants

I had a variety of plants that ranged from 1 to 4 years old in pots on my balcony and inside by windows. When I had to repot them I saw this product and thought the moisture control was a great idea as I live in Arizona where temps range from 110 to 115 during the hotter months. My plants got sun until 10am and were in the shade after that and were all doing splendidly until I used this mix. I have now lost the majority and when I throw them out, root rot seems to be the cause, even though I followed the directions for watering. Very disappointed!

This Potting Mix is by far the best around!

I am a total newbie to gardening of any sorts. I purchased a bag of Miracle Grow Moisture Control Potting Mix to try out because of its great ability to retain moisture; and its ingredients make it so it is almost impossible to overwater. I am having awesome results with my patio tomato plants, that i have in 5 gallon buckets; and am also having great results growing some herbs with this mix. This stuff slowly feeds your plants and vegetables so you do not need to purchase more products to fertilize or feed your plants. I would highly recommend this product to anyone, no matter if you are a Master Gardner or a Newbie like myself. A+

I am 13 years old and this is my first year of vegtable gardening. My mom uses Mircle Gro all the time and in the garage I found this moisture control potting mix. I planted a determinate tomato plant in a big pot with this potting mix and mulch on top. The potting mix is great because it contains the right ingrediants my plant needs and it holds the water without over or under watering. I also planted an indeterminate plant in another pot with Mircle Gro potting mix. Both of the tomatoes are growing a lot of tomatoes already and I'm excited for when they get ripe. The determinate tomato with the moisture control potting mix is growing a whole bunch of tomatoes and it is a really strong plant. If you are looking to grow plants in pots I think this product would be great.

In my forty years of having house plants, I have never had fungus gnats before until I used your product this fall. I am very angry because now I have to deal with a great amount of gnats flying around. I will never buy any of your potting soils again. I am now in the process of re-potting many, many house plants. I am a member of a large garden club and will certainly let all the members know of the risk they are taking in using your soils.
Cons: warn customers not to use on indoor plants, warn customers you''ll probably get fungus gnats

We do not sterilize the soil nor do we claim to on the package. In addition, soils and mulches may become infested with insects while in storage or as they are waiting for sale.
We are aware that in some cases, soils become infested with fungus gnats. Fungus gnats enter the bagged product through the tiny air holes in the bag that are necessary for the soil to "breathe". They do little damage but are unpleasant if present in large numbers. These insects do not feed upon plants, but lay their eggs in soil that contains organic matter. After a week the eggs hatch, and the larvae crawl through the upper layer of the soil. The larvae are white, 1/4 inch long, and have black heads. They feed on fungi that grow on organic matter. The larvae usually do not damage plants but, when present in large numbers, may feed on the roots of some plants, killing very young seedlings. The larvae feed for about 2 weeks before maturing into adults. There can be many generations in a single year.
In most cases plants do not need to be re-potted. Here are some steps you can take to get rid of the gnats without having to re-pot the plants. Let the soil dry out more between each watering. Dry soil can help kill the larvae. Most people tend to over water their plants, and this can make the problem worse. It's especially important to drain the saucers of excess water. Anything left after an hour should be poured out.
Apply at least 1/2 inch of sand on top of the soil of potted/container plants. Larvae cannot burrow through the sand and will die. Sand should be left on the container for several weeks, until the problem is solved. Insects will not disappear overnight. It may take several weeks but you should begin to see a reduction in insect numbers. It is important that all houseplants in the home be treated.

I have found after years of using Miracle grow potting soil that you can't get in a hurry to buy it in April. Last year I did that and it smelled like mildew when I opened it (all 10 bags). I believe they had been stored outside over the winter.The plants didn't grow well at all. This year (buying from the same place ) I waited until the rush to buy was over, which I
usually do, and the soil was very fresh. I have a question. The bag says to start feeding after 30 days of planting. I won't over feed will I? I've finally took the time to read the whole bag.
