Infested With Gnats

Absolutely infested with fungus gnats, right out of the bag. Incredibly resistant ones. They swim in hydrogen peroxide, neem oil doesn't even effect them, mosquito dunks are also ineffective. Miracle gro has bred super gnats in their garbage soil facilities. You'll never get rid of them, just throw out your miracle gro and never buy it again.
Cons: Didn't work as expected, Bad Odor

Holds way too much water

I bought this to repot a very large peace lily into 2 new 11 inch nursery pots. I have always liked miracle grow for plants, but I have never used moisture control. My plants were already in 11 inch wide nursery pots. In my old soil the plants required 1 quart of water every 10 days indoors and they flourished. When I repotted these I added 1 full quart of water to the new mixture since I had let the old pots dry out to easily break the plants in 2. Oh my…I could barely lift the pots into their baskets. Some of the water made its way through and I had to empty the baskets out which meant lifting the pots once more. 2 days ago I just put them in the bathtub to drain. Water is still coming out! I’ve now moved them on to a stack of papers to be able to clean the tub from the brown stains water. They have saturated the paper so I guess I’ll need to put them in the tub. At this rate it could be six months before I can water them. Of course since it is holding all this water the plants seem to be suffering. As soon as this dries out I’m repotting into regular potting mix. I’ll dump this into my outside soil to help the veggies instead. For this reason I am only giving it 2 stars for the miracle grow name and mix quality. But not for moisture control.

Great, if you mix it with other soils.

This is a great product if you use as a mix with other soils. I think by itself, the product may hold too much water especially if you're someone that waters their plants everyday. I live in Los Angeles where the air is pretty dry and my plants lose the moisture in their pots to the air quickly. I started to do a 50/50 mix of this soil and the regular potting mix soil in the yellow bag, and it works wonders!! I only have to water my potted plants once every 3 days year around, and once every 2 days in peak summer and all my plants are growing beautifully. I do not recommend to use this and water your plants everyday, the moisture retention constantly is probably what is causing the mold issues mentioned in other reviews.

Horrible Product

This is the worst potting soil I have ever bought! It is so dense that my plant’s roots are growing upwards and most of them are dying. I think out of maybe 40+ plants 3 of them like “wet feet”, the soil never dries out. I've had to buy all new potting soil and had to repot all my plants, vegetables & herbs. Hopefully, I can keep them all from dying.
I am so irritated and disappointed in this potting soil.
There should be a disclaimer on the package for which plants might “thrive” in this product.

For many years now I have purchased and used Miracle-Gro products with complete assurance of quality.
Other soil sold for outside plants proved to be weak and not perform the way I anticipated.
Lately, I bought potting soil with moisture retention. It was wonderful for my deck boxes and pots. The flowers just thrived and made me feel like a professional gardener. The blooms were gorgeous and the vines full and very healthy.
Here in Indianapolis the sun can shine and dry out planter boxes quickly. With the moisture retention of the soil I wasn't watering as much as I would have with inferior soil.
Using your plant food in my watering can actually made my bedding plants double in size. I was so pleased.
Keep up your good work making this world a beautiful sight to see.

At least I use this product everywhere not just in pot plants. This product DOES work all growing season, which means no fertilizing :)
