Incredible Damage from this Product on Concrete
on July 3, 2016

I was made aware of the possible damage this product could do on concrete from 2 different sources. One, the bag itself has in RED letters that this product will stain concrete. Two, I read it in other reviews. Given this information, I choose to try it anyway figuring I would take extra precautions to get any residue off the pavement. I applied the product and I was dancing with joy as it started raining immediately after application. About 2 hours later my neighbor called me very disturbed. He called me outside and as I approached my driveway I was shocked. Yellow stains everywhere. The sidewalk, yellow stains everywhere. The curb and the street, yellow stains everywhere. So much for my taking precautions. The only thing that even came close to taking off the stains was Miratic Acid. I had to use it straight and it took over 2 bottles to get rid of the stains. My advice to anyone even thinking of using this product is DON'T Scotts should take this product off the market. It's not fit for a private homeowners usage. I certainly would like to be reimbursed for what I spend on Acid and the cost of the product.
Cons: Difficult to use, Didn't work as expected, Messy, Problem with label, stains concrete
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We are very sorry to hear about the damage to concrete and/or pavers that occurred after using Scotts Green Max Lawn Food. Unfortunately the iron in the Green Max Lawn Food you had will stain concrete, pavers and other hard surfaces as indicated on the back of the label. The quicker a stain removal process is begun, the more effective the process will be. Sunlight and water will help to fade the iron stains from the product on outdoor surfaces, but will not completely remove them. If you choose to use commercial stain removers, we suggest you refer to the product label before applying any product to an iron-stained surface. Before using any commercial cleaning products to remove stains, test a small area to make sure the cleaner itself does not cause damage. Most stain removal products work best with two applications.
We want you to be confident in our products, this is why we offer a product guarantee. If you would like to further discuss this, please contact us here: http://tinyurl.com/mds8zo5

My Take on Scott's Max Green
on September 30, 2014

I've used Scott's Max Green on many an occasion. Overall, I would say it is decent, somewhat better than average, but still decent. $40 is way to much for a the 12,000 sqft bag like you'd get at HD. My best alternative to this product is Milorganite. You should be able to get this organic product from HD for $8. It covers 2,500 sqft/bag. The reason I like it better than Scott's product is because it actually puts food into the ground; whereas Scott's depletes the soil.
My take on it.
I've used Scotts Max Green, Scott's southern lawn food, Weed & Feed for Bermuda lawns, Milorgranite, Vigoro lawn food, and twin peaks 13-13-13.
Cons: not very effective
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Stains concrete with orange spots that do not wash off. Suspect the iron in the mixture is causing the staining. I even used a blower to move the fertilizer off the concrete but it still stained badly and looks terrible.
Cons: Messy
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great Product when used with Precautions

This lawn food is excellent, and will darken up a pale lawn and speed grass growth in a very few days, but should be applied carefully with a drop spreader only. If a broadcast feeder is used. one risks getting this on a non-lawn area, and rust spots will result. Beyond that, this can be used to pep up exhausted soil and a lackluster lawn, and is great for those of us who neglect that critical late fall/early winter feeding, only to witness a weak growth of grass emerge the following spring. Overall, however, a fantastic product.
