Gen 9 charge ports fry motherboards!

I went through two of these machines at work in a relatively short period of time. You can not use both charge ports at the same time, because if you do it fries the motherboard!! Stay away from Gen 9!!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Love the X1 carbon lineup, upgraded from a 6th Gen to this 9th gen. I think the keyboard is a step down from but it's still good. I wished I had avoided the privacy display option as the viewing angles are poor even when it's disabled. Build quality is top notch, speaker upgrades are fantastic, the machine is fast but it doesn't take a lot to hit the thermal limits. My biggest gripe is the thermal throttling. There are known issues with the thermal management under Linux and the machine drops to 400mhz for extended period which for me has forced me to use Windows on this machine, not what I had intended the machine for. Under Windows this is less of an issue (after a recent update from Lenovo) with the thermal throttling occasionally dropping to 400mhz for just a few seconds here and there (still annoying but not critical). Hopefully a future firmware update can solve this issue in the future.

It's specs are unique, there is no noise or hear whatever the use might be, touch screen is very responsive and it's brightness is super while I am using it outside on sunny conditions, shortcuts on the keyboard are very helpful / practical lightweight as it's predecessors and great battery autonomy. In total I am very satisfied and obviously I am proposing this laptop for business operation!
