[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I accidently purchased this machine for my wife; she was looking to replace an 8 year old IBM with an updated model. The ThinkPad X1 doesn't come with a touch screen, a feature she likes so we ordered the X1 Yoga and would have returned this one. However, as I was setting up her up on this machine I was noticing how much I liked it.
I have to give the X1 high marks on the User Experience. The keyboard has exactly the right action. I also hang a lot of accessories off a computer, and there is just the right amount of ports. I love the weight of it, and the screen is just big enough for me to have several apps open and use them the way I like to.
If I had my choice I'd use the X1 exclusively for work. It is an all-round thoroughbred of a laptop and I had a very good experience with customer service when I thought I'd return the machine.
Small thing to be aware of; this is an all black machine, so finger oils show up. My wife bought the Titanium Yoga and we noted it does not show the oils and dirt that will eventually show up. BUT, that's minor, and I'd buy this laptop all over again.
So far, not so good. Had to take it in to a service tech to get the keyboard controller replaced. It's two weeks old and the keyboard and mouse pad starting freezing up. So yeah. Not a good start.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
