I've had the Watch 4 for a few weeks now and have noticed a few steps back from the Tizen OS on the Active and Active 2:
First and foremost, Starting a swim exercise puts the watch in water lock mode (as it should), but the buttons don't work in water lock mode, so the only way to pause or finish a swim is to take it out of water lock mode, then hope you or the watch aren't too wet to pause or finish by touching the screen. Not at all intuitive for this workout. The previous versions paused/resumed when you touched the physical button (worked in water lock mode, though you still had to take it out of water lock to "finish"). On the bright side, the watch tracks laps MUCH better than its predecessors. My swim tracking has been dead-on accurate so far!
Second, the only way you get notification that your rest time is over when working out in sets of reps is if you activate the screen by turning your wrist or touching it. It will probably tell you your rest is up if you activate the "always on" display, but the old versions didn't require that. This is a minor inconvenience, but something that worked fine on Tizen. This issue with all workout notifications seeming to "sleep" unless using the "always on" display causes several issues, actually, related to workouts. It left out 2 miles of a 5 mile cycling exercise because I hit "finish" before it had a chance to notify me how I did on "lap 3" and return to active tracking (I ended up having to manually enter the mileage as another workout using the phone app). I really just wanted to pause the workout, but now that hitting the button no longer pauses but brings up a menu to pause or finish, it's easy to hit "finish" instead of "pause" by accident.
Third, you used to have an option for multiple multi-workout shortcut tiles. Now you get one, and it will have the exact same workouts that are in the Health app under exercise (changing the shortcuts in the app changes them on the watch and vice versa). This is also just a minor inconvenience.
One last thing I find strange is that every time I reach my steps goal, the watch congratulates me on meeting my goal for the first time. On my Active, I got a simple message that I met my goal, but with the Watch 4, I meet my goal for the first time all the time. Changing the goal doesn't stop this.
I intend to stick with it because I have to believe this is related to the new OS and updates will address some or all of these issues.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Not only is the battery life ridiculously bad, but come on Samsung!!! I'm sitting here in the middle of a workout dripping sweat, my watch telling me that my heartbeat is between 175 and 205 and the stupid thing turns itself off. Not only that but when I do restart it 2 seconds later it turns itself off again then. How are you gonna have a fitness tracker that that misses half your workout because it pauses itself. Now I know why I don't buy Samsung products and never will again. As soon as I get down paying this stupid watch off I'll be going back to fitbit at least their product works.

I traded my Active 1 watch for this Active 4 watch and I wish I could have my Active 1 back. After 2 years of use, I could still go 3 days on the battery. I get one day out of this New 4. How do you get a proper 24 hour health rating when your watch is charging for 2 hours everyday. It's junk! I wish I had never saw the add. And the Apps are less available and seem worse then they apps I had on my 1. I can't even get an Altimeter that works on it. What is Samsung going to do about this major fail?

I just got this 2 days ago. I loved the fitbit but wanted something to work better with my phone. I have always loved my Samsung. Well I love the watch but very disappointed that the battery can't even make it a full day for me. Can we do something about this as the fitbit lasts up to 7 days.

I have had almost every samsung watch there is and this is the first time I have been disappointed! I am seriously considering taking it back. There is no choices in watch faces and if you use a 3rd party service to get a watch face the the sensors dont work with it. The battery was down to 35% after 12 hours and I had only walked 4000 steps at work so what if I had actually gone on a hike or something it would have been dead. The heart rate is off vs my finger monitor and my active 2. You have to download apps just to do anything its like having an apple where apple owns everythings. I only upgraded from the 3 because the 3's back was so bulky it was compressing my nerve and making my hand numb.

I'm really surprised with some of the reviews. I've had the watch for a week and everything has worked well. I also own the Active2 and this is definitely an upgrade. The battery life has been pretty good. I feel that you can get about 24-36 hours on a charge and the charging time is about an hour and a 1/2.

I've been a dedicated Samsung customer since 2006. This is the first time I've really regretted my purchase. I've been wearing my Galaxy Sport for several years. Decided it was time for a upgrade. I'll get to the point...The battery life is better on the Sport. I haven't turned on LTE nor have I recorded a workout on the Watch 4 yet.... but the battery only last a day for me. The design is very sharp looking. But... I don't really want to charging my watch every night.. when it should be tracking my sleep.

Had it for a couple of days now and so far im loving the ui, and the slick design but like so many others samsung dropped the ball on the battery. I upgraded from my galaxy watch active 2 and that watch could go at least 1.5 days with heavy use to where as for this watch i have to recharge 2 a day on normal usage. Will most likely end up returning it and waiting for the next upgrade or will be switching to another brand.
