Amazing Grill! Poor travel design

This is the best grill I’ve ever owned. Beats charcoal and gas hands down.
The only issue is the folding legs. They don’t stay well and this really isn’t portable for 1 person. Requires 2. I like traveling alone and the Traeger Tailgater is not 1 person friendly

Small grill works great for us
on August 6, 2024

We bought this grill four or five years ago. We bought the small one as most of the time I'm just cooking for my wife and myself. In the time we've owned it the only part I've had to replace is the drip tray.
We mainly use it as a grill and we use it a lot. I've also smoked whole chickens, turkey breast, meatloaf and brisket. Most of the time it does a great job. It does struggle to stay lite if the temp is on 225. I just don't go below 250 and everything works fine.
I would buy it again if this one ever does quit working.

Great portable grill for larger gatherings

Really nice portable grill. Use it at our RV. Doesn't have quite as much temperature stability as our larger Ironwood 885. Pellet hopper is smaller and you have to keep an eye on the pellet hopper. Pellets do not fall down into the auger evenly and can run out of pellets in the auger while the hopper still has pellets. Best to keep hopper as full as possible.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

My wife got me a TFB30LUB for Christmas as I've got a Texas and love it but its a little large for when its the two of us. Put it together and cooked prime rib. It started fine, and I followed the directions to the "T" and had brand new pellets. When I switched to smoke the temp slowly went down and I got an error "LER". The unit seems to work fine on heats but it can't hold "SMOKE" for more than 10 minutes before the temp starts to plummet. I've been on with support and they ran me through the usual trouble shooting. It seems to be a design flaw, if I open the Traeger up and raise the temp, the fire restarts and its fine again but only for few minutes.
It's started fires from overflowing pellets into the basin when left on and seems to be poorly thought out. RUN AWAY from this unit!
SUPER DISAPPOINTED.

Am I having fun with this or what?

I don't use it on a "tailgate" - But the patio loves it. The only thing I can't cook/smoke is beer can
chicken/turkey because it isn't tall enough. It is my go-to grill because there is 2 of us and this grill
doesn't eat pellets very much. "Keep it simple stupid" is the best way to describe this grill.

Temp issues
on July 13, 2021

Had for three years. Had low temp issue and they sent me a new temp prob. Still had issues. Now high heat issues. Turn on smoke and it goes to 350. Have to keep opening lid just to get temp down. Won’t hold at 180. Will call them but just think I got a lemon

Hey Rick, thanks for taking the time to review your Tailgater.

This is not a common issue, but we can help you find the cause and get your Traeger up and running again. We would first recommend ensuring you are using the start-up procedure outlined in your manual. Not following these steps could cause temperature issues throughout the entire cook.

Some grills have P-setting functionality. If your grill has this function, you will notice a small hole, a blank black sticker, or a sticker that reads “Call Service” on the controller to the LED screen's right. You can adjust the p-setting by using a paper clip to press the button in the small hole. Adjust until the controller flashes “P-3.” If the grill continues to run too hot, adjust to “P-4.”

Please don't hesitate to reach out to our support team at 1-800-TRAEGER between 6 am and 10 pm MT, we're happy to help.

Not pleased.

50 percent of cooking turns out great. Other 50 percent turns out in disaster and ruined meals. Error lamps. Temp dies out randomly and fills burn bowl with pellets in the middle of the cook time. I have some good cuts of meat that were utterly ruined by these problems. Not impressed. I'm sure they'll offer to fix this for me but I'm not confident that they can build one of these without using cheap parts.
