Very difficult to clean and maintain

I have had the timberline 850 for two years now and sad to say it just ok as I love to cook, especially grilling and had much higher hopes for this grill. My single biggest issue is keeping it clean. Anyone that knows anything about grilling knows it all starts with a clean grill and this grill is ridulously tedious to clean. The way its designed there are so many nooks and crannies that either pellet dust, grease, or both get in places you would never expect and clean up takes forever. I have had several weber grills over the years and the primary concern there is keeping the grates clean but with the Timberline 850 its way more than keeping grates clean. I spend two hours cleaning it for every 6-8 hours of cooking.
I keep my grill in the garage when its not being used to keep it protected and have learned how critical it is to make sure its perfectly level because even if its just off slightly in a way the reduces the juice and grease flow the clean up is even more difficult and time consuming. The drip pan covers need to be installed perfectly or they too will restrict the grease flow and create additional clean up issues. It just seems to be a poor design for a high end grill. I have a shop vac dedicated to cleaning this grill and even with that to clean it right you have to remove quite a few screws to remove interior covers to adequately g clean the nooks and crannies. The best feature is that is great a holding a temperature and contolling it with the wi-fire app is very convenient. Even so, I find myself using my old charcoal weber grill more and more simply becuase I dont want have to deal with the clean up of theTraeger. I pretty much only use the Traeger when I am cooking a large amount of food for 6 people or more to justify the cleaning of the grill. I guess I am not the only one that feels this way as the clean up issue seems to have been addressed with the newer models. If you are consideing buying a Treager, I strongly suggest you look at the new model with the EZ clean pot to avoid a situation like mine where you spend alot of money on a grill that is only used selectivelydue due to the hassle of cleaning it.

Bought the Timberline 850 for husband's birthday 3 years ago. It's still his most prized possession of all time! I did a lot of research but when I read a review on here that said stop reading reviews and just buy it, I did!! Obviously, it benefits me sincerely because he's a grill pro now, everything is perfect, no more medium steaks for me when I ask for medium rare! I like to go big on his B-day every few years and now I'm in serious trouble, nothing can compete. Just do it!!

Great when it works Timberline 1300

So I purchased my Timberline from a neighbor who bought it and used it to smoke a turkey for Thanksgiving. He decided to move out of state and didnt want to haul it with him so he sold it to me. I was over the moon with it initially but have since become extremely disappointed with its durability. I believe this was one of the 1st 1300 in the market and have run into issues with replacement parts since they kind of retooled the inners. Bottom line,I have replaced the auger drive motor and a faulty probe. It worked for a few smokes and since, has stopped working again. I am know waiting for a new auger,I side temp probe, and most likely a new fire pot. This is by far the most expensive piece of patio decorations I own. I would not recommend this unit based off of my experience. Maybe the newest generation Timberlines are built better

Traded Up but Wish I Hadn’t

Got rid of my pro for a Timberline 850. Wish I’d kept the Pro. Had to replace thermocouple as it kept running away. Temp got so hot that it bubbled the paint and 6 months later I’m still waiting for part.
Wi-Fi is un reliable and keeps dropping out. You can troubleshoot and troubleshoot connects then drops out.
Save your money buy the pro.

Hi Swads,
Thanks for your review, All our Traeger models bring unrivaled wood-fired flavor to the table, unlocking your food's true potential. Our WiFire grills such as the Timberline 850 and the New gen Pro series allows you to set and adjust the temperature through your phone. If the thermocouple is bent usually during cleaning or the plastic orange protective cover was not removed before use, a thermocouple replacement would be required. A damaged thermocouple would cause temp swings as well. We recommend moving your grill as close as possible to your router for a stable connection. There are great tips on the support page of our website regarding Wifire troubleshooting and temp swings for your Timberline 850 grill. If you have any questions or need help, please give us a call at 1-800-TRAEGER.

Stay far away from Traeger, will never buy again

Finally decided to invest in a supposedly high-end grill, the Timberline 850. A significant grill investment. Bought it just under a year ago in June of 2021. Like many, I am finding that the paint bubbles and peels off the back. I have maintained this grill beyond the Traeger recommendations, but what I was told by Traeger is that the issue is maintenance on my part, and so I just have to live with it. Great investment in a far inferior product. Will be my last Traeger, and I don't recommend any readers of this post make the same mistake I did. I've had much better grill experiences for far fewer dollars.

Thank you for your feedback on our Timberline 850, Thad. All of our new grill purchases come with a 3-year warranty. That warranty covers keeping the grill up and functioning properly. Since paint damage, ruled as a maintenance issue, does not affect the functions of the Traeger's cooking, cosmetic damage is not covered under the warranty. Paint bubbling and flaking is typically due to grease buildup along the inside of the barrel walls. When that buildup gets very hot, it can heat through the coating, and cause paint damage to the exterior of the barrel. We'd be more than happy to take another look into this if you do not agree with your resolution, and would like a second opinion. Please do not hesitate to give us a call at 1-800-TRAEGER to speak with one of our live agents, available 7 days a week. We're more than happy to help.

I was dissapointed with the grill. It leaks grease around the trap. The lid doesn't close squarely. The insulation around the lid needed to be redone to get the flimsy clips to hold it in place, and it still isn't perfect. This is my second traeger, and for the top of the line, I was expecting more.
