Traeger fan...for good!

I am a Traeger fan. I bought the 527 for home use and the Scout for RV use. Great product. Temperature on the Scout is dicey but it cooks well for me. I just monitor food temps and all good. Ranger struggles with same regulation but still a good portable pellet grill.

Not really portable easily

Was given this grill as a gift. Overall mostly like it. The maintenance is a pain. Has to be cleaned before every use unlike other brands I have used. The grill has caught fire twice. First time I blamed it on my not vacuuming it out the next day, but I have experienced fire making its way into the pellet hopper several times ruining my cooking experience.

Big piece of junk

Biggest piece of junk ever. Will not do time, will not hold temp, continuously loses temp or stops feeding pellets or something. Every effort to set a cook time resulted in it shutting off. Ruined several food items, yes, I tried more than once but it never worked.

Hi, and thanks for reviewing the Traeger Ranger. If the grill’s temperature drops regularly then it is something that should be correctable fairly easily. This behavior can be the result of a number of different causes, such as compromised pellets, an obstruction of air flow, adding food before the grill heats up, and even the way it is started and shut down. You can also check the thermostat (RTD probe) to make sure it is measuring the temperature correctly by comparing reading at startup to the ambient air temperature. As for the timer shutting down the grill, this is usually due to the center button being held too long when trying to cycle through the different modes. To test this, try firmly, but quickly pushing the center button to see if the display changes between the grill temperature, timer and probe alarm modes. If it does, then simply stop at the timer and set with the hours with the up button, then quickly press the center again to set the minutes the same way. Once the timer is running, it will sound an alert when the countdown is finished, but it won’t make any adjustments to the grill or shut it down. However, if you still are having difficulties, with either the temperature or the timer, you are always welcome to call Traeger Support any day of the year. We have agents available up until 10:00 PM MT who can help with everything discussed here and a lot more.

I bought Ranger at the Strawberry festival in Florida. Cooked my first brisket 6 lbs seasoned with Traeger beef and coffee and used Hickory. Nice smoke ring tender and moist.

Love this little grill for a quick weeknight dinner, comes to temp super fast. Burgers, steaks, or a tri tip work great. We also love to use it when we cook longer meals to reverse sear the steaks using the griddle.
