Great portable smoker.

Been using this for a few months now.
It’s great for camping and road trips, very portable. Holds 8lbs of pellets and burns about 1lb hour. I used this camping a lot and power it with a portable solar generator. It pulls about 400W to start and 50W to run.
I find you should treat this as an oven more than a smoker. The griddle is great for making breakfast. This requires constant maintenance, Vacuum out dust and wiping off grease. Noticed the interior paint is peeling already when I never even smoked over 350. The timer also isn't accurate as it losses a few seconds every few minute.
I would still recommend it.

Perfect size for tailgating and camping. Fits plenty of meat...don’t let the size fool you. Easily fits two full sized chickens or tri-tips. I was able to fit a 8 lb pork butt. Also was able to smoke an 11 lb ham. I keep it in the bed of my truck, ready to roll!

Great for truckers!

I drive over the road and until now I used a little hibachi type charcoal grill. I bought a Tailgater years ago and love it but it’s too big for the truck. I saw the Ranger and knew it was gonna replace hibachi. It fits in the cargo hold and is simple to unload and set up. I’ve had other drivers ask if they could throw their own burgers or hotdogs on it while I’m cooking. Thanks Traeger people! You’re making it easy to avoid unhealthy fast food.

I saw some bad reviews but I went with the Traeger anyway. So far it has been great for camping and I have made wings, cooked breakfast and made some fantastic Bison steaks and smoked sausages.

I have had my Ranger for 3 years and it is the best portable grill on the market. I wish Treager had a portable stand for the Ranger, this would be the perfect addition for the RV'er.

Pellet grill vet

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is to help those who experience fluctuations in temperature of any pellet grill. 1. Wind is the enemy. Try to place the pellet grill in a location with the least amount of wind.
2. Outside temperature. If it is freezing cold or blisterring hot outside, this will effect the temperature. I found if I used pellet grills in the shade or under cover of some sort, this helped.
3. This is in regards to this particular model. Mostly the thing that may be effecting the temperature stability is the fact that this particular model has not much if any sort of insulating factor. This is just an inexpensive way for those that do not have much space or are on the go, can have some pellet grilled food. For what it is meant for, I think it will suffice just fine for its design.
I have owned Traegers, Camp Chefs, Mac's, and a few other pellet grills. All of the things I mentioned effect them all. What I come to think, is the ultimate setup is to have a canvas tent to use the pellet grill inside of, like one would do when cooking a whole pig or lamb on a full size rotisserie grill in a tent.

Backburn in the hopper
on May 12, 2022

I had this grill for a couple months and at first it worked flawlessly. I cleaned it after every cook, but started getting large amounts of backburn into the pellet hopper. This got bad enough that I thought it was going to be dangerous. Over time the problem kept getting worse. The only way to remove the pellets is manually scoop them out or turn the grill upside down. I liked the portability, but can't deal with the backburn issue. I have found this to be a problem with other portable pellet grills as well. In my opinion the distance from the burnpot through the auger to the pellet hopper is too short and this type of problem is inevitable. I have had no such problems with my Ironwood 885. I think Traeger needs to make some engineering changes to this model.
