Backburn in the hopper

I had this grill for a couple months and at first it worked flawlessly. I cleaned it after every cook, but started getting large amounts of backburn into the pellet hopper. This got bad enough that I thought it was going to be dangerous. Over time the problem kept getting worse. The only way to remove the pellets is manually scoop them out or turn the grill upside down. I liked the portability, but can't deal with the backburn issue. I have found this to be a problem with other portable pellet grills as well. In my opinion the distance from the burnpot through the auger to the pellet hopper is too short and this type of problem is inevitable. I have had no such problems with my Ironwood 885. I think Traeger needs to make some engineering changes to this model.

Love the Ranger we have had it for about 6 weeks and have used it about a dozen times. Holds temp perfect it barbecues and smokes outstanding. We done chicken, pork chops, pork tenderloin, steaks, brisket, ribs and even a chuck roast. Perfect size for 2 to 4 people with leftovers for the next day. It’s like the Harley Davidson of grills.

High temp run offs

First night the temp was set at 225 and after an hour of cooking it took off to over 300 until I turned it off. An hour later it did the same thing. You can't set it and forget it on these things, you'll burn your meat and maybe the whole grill if not continually monitoring it. I returned it as defective and not doing as advertisements claimed.

Just over a year of Traegering, my oven has become a storage bin complete with cob webs. Having been bitten by a Lone Star Tick 5 years ago I could no longer have dairy or any mammalian meat. As a long time griller eating became a boring chore, until I put a Traeger on my porch. I cold smoke turkey bacon, cook all manner of seafood and poultry and food is fun again. I gave samples of turkey bacon instead of Christmas Cookies, I have too many loyal fans and the traegering population keeps growing. I have the 22 inch model and will be adding the Ranger soon for traveling. Way too much fun and the best food ever.

Great camping grill

I had it for a year . The only problem I had was the drip pan leaked down and it fought on fire.
