i love how this lantern looks and feels. and its functionality is ready to get it all done. adjustable task lighting, super fun multi-color cycling, turn it up high, dim it down low even get it to a gentle candle flicker. create any mood, it's the best lantern.

Great quality product, gives off a tremendous amount of light. The control of the unit could be better and more intuitive. Also wish the candle mode was warmer and dimmer.

I'm generally a fan of BioLite products, with the exception of the BaseLantern. The BaseLantern requires Bluetooth to access its extra features. The AlpenGlow does not, which is a solid win. Extra features on the AlpenGlow require that you cycle to the appropriate starting point (using the button on the top), then give the unit a shake. This can be a little fiddly at times, but it is far less frustrating than an uncooperative bluetooth app.
The AlpenGlow is well built, with excellent tactile feel and solid feedback from the top button. The colourful modes from which the unit gets its name are pleasant. Candle flicker mode is cute, but the illusion is ruined if the unit is within your field of vision.
Unless you need the bigger battery of the BaseLantern, get this.

I was looking for a replacement for an old hanging paper lantern that was in sad shape, and somehow came across this. At first I vetoed it because it's so small and I thought it would look ridiculous hanging in my living room. However, I'm a big fan of multipurpose items, and I'm so happy I finally bought it. I primarily use the warm white light (plenty bright for everything I use it for) and multicolor modes (the ones that resemble the sky at different times of day), and the fireworks mode is actually really cool and soothing to watch.
Battery life is pretty good - I use it every evening for several hours and have to charge it about twice a week. I've also used it camping a couple of times, and I love the warmer light option for that as well, so that I don't feel like I've brought a horrible fluorescent light with me into the woods. Seriously considering a second one to replace an old lamp in another room.
