Too many hoops and difficulties

I'm surprised at the obstacles I've faced in using this speaker. I got it because a friend has one and the sound was really good. I actually also think the customer service is amazing as well. But- downloading and using the Sonos app somehow causes glitches with Pandora and I still can't play a song off YouTube, even after trouble sitting way more than I feel I should need to. I don't like having an extra app, but now the speaker can't seem to reliably find the Internet connection I always have it connected to. There's just too much trouble when speakers can be so easy, blue tooth or cable. I know they're trying to corner a market with the app, but tbh I think they lose more than they gain with causing complication.
Pros: Superior Sound
Cons: Difficult Setup, Difficult to Use, Unreliable

Every time I go to use the Roam I received as a gift - precluded with so much hype for Sonos products...I have been displeased every time I use it! Every time I have to re-sync it and it takes forever (numerous reboots and re-setting up to get it to work. My $30 Bluetooth speaker I bought and used previously NEVER gave me this trouble! Tempted to send this back to not have to deal with the trouble every.single.time!

Orange light question

The sound is wonderful, but the unit shuts down, even when plugged in. The orange light flashes toward the bottom of the unit .... over-heated ... after playing for about an hour. Frustrating

Set up with Android is finicky

I received the Sonos Roam as a Christmas gift since I was desperately in need of replacing an old Bose speaker that was no longer holding its charge. I really wanted to like this speaker but it has given me countless issues trying to set it up. I WISH I could say "Hey Google, play piano jazz on Youtube" but it always gives me an error that I am not a Premium account member. Instead I manually have to find a playlist from my phone and play that via Bluetooth but it would be SO nice if I could just ask Google to play it on my Sonos Roam "hands-free" while cooking. I do like the sound quality, although I find that sometimes the volume cuts out and when I try to directly turn up the volume from my Samsung S10, it doesn't work. I basically have to disconnect and reconnect the Sonos from Bluetooth, then close the app on my phone, then reconnect it for the volume to respond. For the price of the Sonos Roam, I find this unacceptable. I am hoping that Sonos can fix these small bugs because I really like the size and look of the speaker, that I can "Ask Google some things" and the sound quality when playing music.

Not as bad as I was thinking it was going to be

I was annoyed, like the other reviewers, to have to get an app to setup my Roam. But, you don't have to use the app to use it as a bluetooth speaker. After putting the app on my phone, the Roam shows up as a usable output device on my bluetooth menu. Done. I choose not to use the app as a music, video, everything player, like it wants you to, but you can if you want. The sound quality was way better than I expected or have ever heard from a bluetooth speaker this size. It does kinda cut out every once in a while when I move my device around a lot. Not horrible. No button labels on the device, and no specific instructions to use it were sources of annoyance. The little unmarked button on back next to the charging cable jack is the power and pairing button, but I had to figure that out through trial and error. The Sonos logo is symmetrical, so you can't immediately tell if the speaker is upside-down by glancing at it, dumb idea. Love that it is water-resistant. I was prepared to hate this device (I got it for winning a contest at work) after reading the reviews, but I CAN just use it as a speaker, as long as I just keep the app on my phone and not use it, so no harm, no foul. The sound makes up for the annoyances and lack of user-friendly design.
