I bought a Roam to use solely as a bluetooth speaker. Not to be part of a bigger system. The sound was great using Spotify on my iPhone. However, that's not where I store my music. I have a Sony MP3 player and the volume could not be controlled from it. I had to return my Roam for that reason and go back to Bose which is controllable from my Sony.NW-A40
Pros: Superior Sound, Wireless
Cons: Can't control volume from my Sony MP3 player

I use it to listen to music but the main reason I use it is to connect to my Sonos Beam sound bar and have a rear speeker. So far it has not been a good experience. It goes into sleep mode when not in use so you have to wake it up. Not an easy thing. Ending up rebooting it all the time what takes too much time. Also when it is working it fades in and out and my sound bar is only 20 ft away. For the money I paid I expected something that would be easy to use and not these problems every time I want to use it. I have only had it for a couple of weeks maybe it will get better

Such a pain to setup

The Roam is a pain to setup. If you are going to sell the public a Bluetooth speaker it should connect directly out of the box to ones desired device. The app is clunky and requires your home Wi-Fi. Once you travel away from home the speaker is useless. Over all the software setup makes zero sense. I had high hopes for this speaker but ended up disappointed.

This took a while to get going. Needed to update the app, add it to the home system, before we could even get just the bluetooth going. None of these instructions are included with the package. Had to contact customer service to walk me through that. Now that it is all set-up, it is a wonderful little speaker with big sound.

I listen to music, podcasts, and audiobooks a lot! Typically, I have wireless buds in my ear as it is the most portable as I move around the day, the house, etc. Once I am in a given area, I prefer to use an external speaker. I have a Bose 900 soundbar in the living room, Google speakers in almost every room, and now, the Sonos Roam. I really like that the music sounds great! Super easy to use and I can just pick up and take with me from room to room. What I am Not impressed with is the battery life. I don't use this speaker very much as I have others that I also use, however, the battery is dead in about 2 days... I've seen comments that the speaker will "wake" itself up so it is ready to go whenever... well, that functionality is a negative for me. I don't mind pressing the power button to "wake" the speaker up when I need to use it. And, I don't want to have to plug it in often with little use. I received this as a gift. I would Not buy it with my own money.
