Just take it out of the box, plug in the charger, set the speaker on the charger, activate the speaker with the Sonos app, pair in stereo with a second Roam and you're in business. I intend to leave them on the charger and only occasionally remove them for use in another room so I placed two Roams under the bed in our Master bedroom and two in the living room on either side of the fireplace. The quality and amount of sound out of such small speakers is nothing short of amazing! And the sonic range is very good with lower tones very much present. I highly recommend the Roam's!
Pros: Different Music, Different Rooms, Easy to Set Up, Expandable, Streams All My Music, and More, Superior Sound, Wireless

I use this product for three reasons: I use this product primarily at my work place. I work in an operating room (the size of a large bedroom in most cases) and I need a solid sound to fill the room over the constant drone of equipment. I also use this at home in the kitchen. I also use it in the back of my vehicle when dressing for a day of snowboarding. The sound is better than anything else I have tried. It is AMAZING for its size. Treble and bass sound spectacular. The battery charge has lasted 9+ hours. Here is the issue. The instructions are basic in the box (no words). I had to look up "sonos" on the web and figured out I needed to download the app to use with my android phone. I realized that the speaker needed a wifi connection in order to connect to my phone. It is not a simple bluetooth. To this day, I need a wifi connection in order to use my android phone with the speaker. HOWEVER, I have an Ipod. It connects simply via a bluetooth connection. It also connected to my macbook without an issue. Bottom line: when using a windows based system, I need to download an app and ONLY use the app when using the speaker via a wifi connection. It will not work if you have no wifi. If you have an apple product, after downloading the app it works flawlessly as a bluetooth speaker. Odd, but usable.
Pros: Superior Sound, Wireless
Cons: Difficult Setup, Difficult to Use

I wish that Sonos included the wireless charging port with the roam. Outside of this, it provides great sound, battery life could be better...overall great speaker
Pros: Expandable, Superior Sound, Wireless

This is a great product for people already familiar with the Sonos ecosystem. However, it makes a rather poor gift for non-tech savvy people who are used to easy Bluetooth pairing. I got a unit for myself first to test it out, loved the fantastic sound in a small package, and then got another unit as a gift. THAT was a huge pain for the other person, who has never used a Sonos product before. I forget how annoying the first-time setup is. It was very difficult and took an hour of handholding over Zoom. You need to create a Sonos account first, then try to connect the speaker to your phone using a problematic and proprietary process. It asks you to do a magic handwave rubbing thing, like a magic lantern, but we couldn't get it working. Tried on two different Roams across two different phones, Android and iPhone, it just doesn't work. After a few failures it'll eventually let you use the microphone to connect instead, which thankfully works. They should just start with that and skip the useless NFC connection. Once it's connected, it takes 5 min for a self-update. Then you have to connect your Sonos account to your Pandora/Spotify/etc account, if you can remember your passwords. Only THEN can you finally play music. I really wish this thing just had a dedicated Bluetooth button that switches it to that mode and completely bypasses the Sonos ecosystem, which is by far the worst part of their products. Great hardware, mediocre and very unreliable software. Just know that if you gift one to a technically challenged recipient, be there to set it up with them, or go for a more user-friendly Bluetooth speaker. Once it's set up, it definitely sounds great, but you can get similar-sounding speakers that are much easier to use.
Pros: Different Music, Different Rooms, Streams All My Music, and More, Superior Sound, Wireless
Cons: Difficult Setup, Difficult to Use

Sounds great, but battery life sucks.

This sounds great, but the battery seems to die every day. Considering I have to download an app to use this, I would think the app would be able to let me know the battery is low, so I know to plug it in before it just dies. The 10 hours feels more like 3-4 hours of actual music. My previous speaker like this was an Anker, and the battery lasted days for less than half the cost of the Sonos, so this is disappointing to say the least.
Pros: Superior Sound
Cons: Battery Life Poor

We have two Sonos Roams and listen to local radio and music all day. Sonos app is very frustrating. It has to search for the Roams each time we want to make a change even though the Roams are connected to wi-fi and stay on the same frequency.
Pros: Different Music, Different Rooms, Streams All My Music, and More, Superior Sound, Wireless
Cons: Sonos app is a huge disappointment.
