Not even close to what i expected

This speaker is lousy at best. Not only is it extremely difficult to set up, the actual hardware is not at all what you would expect from Sonos.I own the Move and it is a wonderful speaker. I literally was requesting a replacement in the first 24 hour of using the Roam due to "hardware malfunction". Now, the replacement sent out by customer service cuts in and out. Per customer service "we want to set expectations" basically saying that I have to be ok with this speaker not working 100% straight out of the box and Im being denied a refund... Don't waste your time. Cleary Sonos isn't what it used to be.
Pros: Superior Sound, Wireless
Cons: Difficult Setup, Difficult to Use, Unreliable
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Connectivity Issues

Many difficulties trying to connect the system to wifi and/or Bluetooth. Took multiple ~ 45-minute phone calls with support to finally be able to use the device. The light on the speaker would flash purple, which is not even listed as a possible error signal on Sonos Help. Now that it is finally working, it seems decent. One design issue is the power button on the back is difficult to press as it is pretty flush with the surface and have to use your fingernail to press instead of a nicely tactile button. Overall benefit is integration with Sonos system, but there are cheaper and arguably better stand-alone speakers from competitor for those without a Sonos sound system
Pros: Expandable, Streams All My Music, and More, Wireless
Cons: Difficult Setup, Unreliable
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Had an extremely difficult time setting this up

I had a sonos 5 years ago and it was one of the easiest setups and uses for a speaker, it just did not have bluetooth as well so I stopped. Then my parents bought me a roam and I tried to set it up and but I ran into an issue at pretty much every turn. First, it required that I used my step-dads login info for some reason and would not allow me to create a new account. Then, when I settled and just connected it to my step dads account, it would not make any noises or play any music. Turning it off and on again fixed this though. Also, the updated app, compared to the app I used 5 years ago, was very unintuitive on how to switch which speakers were playing the music. Previously, there was an obvious dropdown to select which rooms should be playing, but now that dropdown appears to just be text and, on first glance, even to someone studying app development and other comp sci stuff, this looks like info being displayed and not a link to choose which rooms are playing. Something as simple as a tiny, downwards pointing arrow to the left of the text would make the app so much more intuitive. Second, the "play in another room" button does not work logically. This button is only selectable when music is already playing in one room. When you click this button, it shows you every room music could possibly play in INCLUDING the room that already had music playing in it/ allowed you to click the "play in another room" button. Given this information, you would think that whichever rooms you select for music to play in would be the only places music will play in. This is not how it works though, music also continues to play in the room that originally had the music in it. If this is how this feature was intended, why is the original room listed in the possible rooms for the music to be added to? It is redundant and confusing. I do not mean to discredit how good the service is, I just wanted to provide incite from someone who somewhat understands how this stuff is created.
Pros: Wireless
Cons: Difficult Setup, Difficult to Use, Unreliable, requires a specific accounts login

Unable to update

Was unable to update the Roam, despite spending at least two hours with Sonos customer service. They suggested it was a firewall issue and ask that I work with my internet provider to see if they could resolve the problem. Decided to cut my losses and return the product.
Cons: Difficult Setup

I purchased Roam to add to other 3 sonos speakers (1st or 2nd gen). I was not able to get it working with my system; no reason to have it if it doesn't pair with other speakers. your tech guy couldn't get it to work either, so sent it back for a refund.
Cons: Difficult Setup, Difficult to Use

Not sure why but too much time wasted trying to get connection to Roam speaker. Almost never works over the internet connection and only sometime through Bluetooth. Frustrating because my other Sonos products (Move and two others) are great. Also it seems that the battery in the Roam loses power much faster than it should. Sonos articles on line not much help do found some videos on YouTube that addressed what I was experiencing. I don't want to have to work this hard.
Cons: Difficult Setup, Difficult to Use, Unreliable
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
