Seems like Sonos made a design choice to encourage sleep mode over power off so that you can turn it on from across the room. But since it's portable and that's its main plus, you'll likely pick it up to carry it somewhere before use. Sleep mode drains the battery way too fast - likely when you want to use it, you'll find it's discharged and unusable, especially since it doesn't charge very quickly. Also, a manual to explain all the little beeps and lights and modes is needed. Why do I have to guess at this?
Pros: Superior Sound
Cons: No Manual

The sound is pretty good, but I thought I'd be getting a speaker that could get loud and last a long time. That doesn't seem to be the case in my casual usage. I'm not trying to fill an airplane hangar with sound, but listening in my car, it struggles to get loud enough to hear above the general sound while driving. As for the battery, I thought standby (not playing music, powered off) would last a long time, but the battery drains quickly - down to 30% - within a day. The Sonos pairing works great, and it picks up my music just fine. Only complaints are the above.
Pros: Easy to Set Up, Streams All My Music, and More, Wireless
Cons: Battery runs down fast, even in standby mode, Volume doesn't go that loud
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Pairing not intuitive, flaky Sonos integration

Given that bluetooth speakers have been around forever, I am surprised that Sonos got the Roam only so-so right. Initial setup went ok, but then the Roams (I have two, at a vacation cabin that has four Sonos One SL speakers) give us trouble whenever someone wants to pair using Bluetooth. The indicator LEDs are placed where you cannot tell they exist until you just happen to look at them. Pressing the power button just long enough to initiate pairing is painful. Everybody in our family who tried had trouble. That is bad. We all use competing BT speakers with no such issues. Further, when we configure a Roam to couple with a One while the Roam is on WiFi and BT, things get flaky.
Pros: Superior Sound, Wireless
Cons: Difficult Setup, Difficult to Use, Unreliable

Battery Life in Standby is Terrible

Want it as a bathroom speaker in a room with limited outlets. The standby time is just too bad for this use case (even using the sleep mode), I want to be able to just use it once a week or so, but it dies in days. Why not a setting to sleep/power off after a few hours of no use. Sounds great and I love that I can air play to a portable speaker. Also audiobooks (audible) cant be played at a sped up speed over Sonos which is the worst.
Pros: Easy to Set Up, Wireless
Cons: Bad Battery, Unreliable
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
