I love Sonos, have lots of products. Wanted to love this, was really excited for it. But as others have said two key flaws, more minor is switching between WiFi, Bluetooth is clunky and hard to confidently manage across different devices - good try though. Single biggest problem for me is that every time I go to use it, it seems like the battery is dead. And takes a while plugged in until it will turn on to play while charging. Comparatively, my little Bose Bluetooth speaker seems always ready to go and announces percent charge when turned on. Anyway I guess I'm leaving the roam on and draining it without realizing so may still need to work new habit. Maybe it's a standby vs full power down sort of thing. That said, great to have a mobile speaker so easily integrated to home setup via WiFi but with BT option, so I'm still giving it some time to grow on me. I'm saying I'd recommend for that reason - very specific use case. So my answer is 'yes BUT.'
Pros: Superior Sound, Wireless
Cons: Awkward connectivity switching, Battery life

Oten shows offline and wouldn't wake up, doesn't reset for long and becomes irresponsive. Was excited to buy but not happy with the product. This one is not as related as the rest of my Sonos equipment.
Pros: Easy to Set Up, Superior Sound, Wireless
Cons: Unreliable
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

battery drain while idle is a killer

I have >10 other Sonos products, all excellent (although their website is quite primitive) but the Roam is a fail. Battery consumption while active is very rapid and is unacceptably high even when asleep or apparently when off. I have yet to go to use it when it had a charge and takes hours to recharge. Whats worse is this excess battery drain while active or inactive was obvious prior to release and has been reported hundreds of times on the internet and yet no word or fix from Sonos. Very disappointing for a company that prides itself on quality and charges accordingly. Highly recommend not to buy a Roam and look elsewhere. My loyalty as a long standing Sonos customer has been seriously tested and Ill likely go elsewhere when I go to upgrade my wireless sound system next time around.
Pros: Wireless
Cons: Unreliable

I was very excited about this product and have been looking for a portable outdoor airplay 2 compatible speaker. This was my first Sonos device, but I had a lot of respect for the brand and have helped friends and family with their sonos systems. The Roam fell far short of my expectations. During the setup the NFC hand shake didn't work and on regular use the device is very difficult to determine if it's on, off, has a dead battery, or isn't connected to a device. Since the battery doesn't last long when the device is inactive, you basically have to debug it upon every use. Once it does work, it will stop periodically for a reason I haven't determined, which requires you to restart the debugging process again. This is the result of bad interaction design, they could have done a lot better here to let the user have more confidence around they a device isn't working.
Pros: Superior Sound
Cons: Difficult Setup, Difficult to Use
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I am fed up with Sonos. I have an arc, two bookshelf speakers, sub a move and now roam. I can't get them to stay connected and my app always has a device it can't find. Just got roam got it on my system. A few days later could not find the roam. Went through all the troubleshooting again (could not find the sub last week) finally got it to find the roam. The only downside is it says move is now offline and won't take a charge. I think if you only had one product it would be great but when you get the entire Sonos ecosystem there are too many variables for the unreliability not to show it's ugly head.
Cons: Unreliable

Uneven battery life negates the high quality sound

Found this product difficult to set up, turn off and manage battery life. Instructions are not included and you have to do a fair amount of research to just understand how to turn off properly. Like the audio quality but always wondering when the battery will run out. Disappointing that they have not addressed these fundamental problems.
Pros: Streams All My Music, and More, Superior Sound
Cons: Difficult Setup, Difficult to Use, Unreliable
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great sound for its size. Several critical issues: 1, it constantly turns on when connected to wifi, even if not in use. This means that if it is not plugged in the battery drains. 2, You can't monitor the battery in bluetooth mode. You can only monitor on wifi, which is short sighted, as if you are near your wifi, it is likely plugged in or near a plug. 3, the USB C charging port is fickle. I have a Ninendo Switch charger that charges an Ipad Pro in 2 hours. I recently took this camping and it died without warning. I plugged the charger in and left it for 10 hours and it was still dead. The wireless charger did not revive it, so I used a 85W charger for a Macbook Pro and it finally showed signs of life. The power management issues need to be addressed before Sonos puts forth a claim that the Roam is something you can pack and forget. The Move is much better, but heavier and takes up more room to travel. Bottom line, if you have a plug and take this to a hotel room, it is great. if you want to be away from the world, this is too unreliable to recommend.
Pros: Different Music, Different Rooms, Superior Sound, Wireless
Cons: Buttons are finicky, Difficult to Use, Does not work well with chargers, No battery level in bluetooth mode, Poor power management, Unreliable
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
