Be warned - can opens by itself without trigger

Good concept but the trash can opens by itself a lot without any trigger. I first thought I received a defect product but received a brand new one and experiencing the same problem right away. It is quite stressful as the can opens randomly by itself. I think the product shouldn’t have been put on the market before the open can automation is programmed correctly.

Our voice and motion sensor can is designed to open when you say "open can" or when something within 6" to 8" passes over the sensor. Conversational phrases and especially background noise from TV's or other devices are similar to the command and their sound waves may trigger the can and open it. This is totally normal and will not negatively effect or wear out the can.

It's hard to justify this purchase for a regular income household. I'm a sucker for gadgets and new tech, so... I do like the deep recycling bucket in the same can--organization!

I absolutely LOVE this! Crazy I know to love a garage can but I am a bit of a germaphobe and I’ve always had issues with touching the garbage can!!!Most thought I was nuts to spend this kind of money but those and the family are all now in agreement it’s a great thing!! We’ve got friends and neighbors now weighing the benefits! The random opening is not an issue not sure if it’s picking up things we say or what but this doesn’t bother us a bit! Again I just love this thing and the 2 cans in 1 is a huge plus!!!!

Love the fact that I don't have to go outside to put stuff in recycling bin anymore. Found that the can is very flexible and fun. My husband opens it by saying "Open Sesame" LOL

I love the look and aesthetics put in to the design of the can. As our kitchen would be difficult to incorporate a hidden trash can within a cabinet, we wanted a stylish trashcan that was easy to clean, and this can definitely fulfills both those criteria. The smooth metal cleans up much easier than your average plastic (porous) kitchen trash can. We like that you can ask it to open with voice command, but sometimes it opens when we did not give the command and sometimes it doesn't open when we ask it too, not a huge deal. Similarly, it sometimes opens when we walk past but aren't intending to use it and sometimes it doesn't open when we're standing right in front of the sensor ready to throw something away. A little annoying at times... Due to space we are extremely happy that the can contains a trash receptacle as well as a recycling receptacle all in one. We like that the recycling bucket has a handle so we can lift it out to carry it outside. Overall a great product, but has some minor flaws and it's a bit overpriced.

Perfect can

This was a long awaited purchase. We owned another simplehuman trash can for many years, and loved it, but it eventually wore down and began to creak, so we needed a replacement. We wanted to upgrade to the sensor and since we recycle too, this trash can was perfect for us. Guests are always amazed that the can is voice activated, and the dimensions work perfectly for our space. Highly recommend. Only wish the can came with a set of recycle bags and a place for them to hang on the recycling compartment.

Love the color and love the functionality. So nice when my hands are full of garbage or clippings from food prep that I don't have to reach down and open a can, or coordinate stepping on a pedal. Also love having both recycles and regular garbage in one can.
