Dog lock?

My dog (a Weimaraner) figured out quickly what it takes to open so he is constantly checking out the contents. I have tried taping the electric eye to no avail

Should have bought the step can

I should have known with the added sensor feature comes additional issues and gone with the step can. The voice activation seems glitchy and this can opens at random when my husband and I are talking in the room and have not said “open can.” I’m 5’ tall and if I walk too close to the can, because I’m so short, my hand tends to always be close enough to set it off. I slightly regret this purchase.

Love this can for providing recycling and trash in one can, plus attaching the Compost Caddy to the side. Love the trash bag held securely by the rim, voice and motion activation, removable blue recycle bin. Only wish it was slightly narrower for traffic around it.

I love this trash can so much that I have purchased the STEP can version of the dual compartment (and smaller cans) several times. It's beautiful, easy to use and clean, the bags are very sturdy and a perfect fit, and having the recycle bin together with the trash is awesome. I absolutely give the STEP can five stars! This time around, however, I decided to upgrade to the voice and motion control version. Unfortunately, I regret that decision, becasue the location where my trash can must be placed is a high traffic area (we use the kitchen A LOT). The sensor must be utra-sensitive, because the can to open every time someone passes in front of it! This frequent opening means that the 6 AA batteries drain within weeks. Replacing battteries so often will get expensive, so I was forced to run an extention cord to power it with the adapter instead (which doesn't look so great). The battery issue was resolved by plugging it, but the can still opens at random times when someone walks in front of it. Once it's time to purchase this can again, I definitely don't plan on getting the sensor control version.
