After much thought we finally pulled the trigger and got this beauty, and boy are we glad we did. It seems funny getting excited over a trash can, but we really do appreciate how well this one works for us, not to mention how nice it looks.

Possessed trash can

I love this trash can but I seem to have an issue with it opening at random. Simplehuman has been amazing replacing the last two for the same issue but I’m having the same problem with the new one. I’m hoping maybe it’s the right quarters of my condo that are causing an issue. Love simplehuman products and everything g else is amazing. Maybe this just needs a bit more development? Or I need to move. Ha ha.

Our voice and motion sensor can is designed to open when you say "open can" or when something within 6" to 8" passes over the sensor. Conversational phrases and especially background noise from TV's or other devices are similar to the command and their sound waves may trigger the can and open it. This is totally normal and will not negatively effect or wear out the can.

The can responds well to the words it understands and by hacking the chip it is slowly adding to its vocabulary. It can now say (and do) things like: "Hide my beer bottles." It's an amazing can!! PS: It responds well to praise.

I hate to admit it, but I love saying “open can” around friends and family. We have the sexiest trash can on the block. Gotta be careful forcing the lid up and down by hand, as the motor can get out of alignment or something. I also love having the recycling bin inside the same can—great idea!

I think it works fine. However, this is the third one. First stopped responding to voice. Second to motion. This is working for both (for now).

I love my new SimpleHuman trash can. It is so obedient and a real crowd pleaser. Oh and it makes my life easier, as well. It is attractive, unobtrusive and is quality construction which is a hallmark of SimpleHuman. Sure, it was as bit pricey. I could have purchased a plastic trash can for much less, but I love technology and this makes me happy. It was delivered "no assembly required" and I would recommend this to anyone interested in a clean, efficient kitchen. My husband "talks" to it but I can't tell you what he says. :-)

Smart can

Very nice, high quality trash can. The two compartments hold more trash than I thought they would which is nice. The only downside is the voice recognition isn't always the best and it will open randomly if you're having a phone conversation. Overall great product.
