On my third one, still not working

I have been mailing trash cans back and forth to simplehuman for the past 6 months getting warranty repairs. First one worked for around 4 months and the other two were DOA. Waiting for my 4th replacement to arrive currently. I wish I never ordered a smart trash can, the thing has a mind of its own. First one opened and closed and slammed whenever it wanted to. Second one didn’t respond. Third one doesn’t do voice commands so I can’t get it to stay open. Factoring in the amount of time I have spent babysitting and following up with the warranty department only to get dead units, and transporting trash cans back and forth with special trips into the office during covid to print shipping labels, this is by far my worst purchase. I just want a refund however I am told that is not possible even though simplehuman cannot honor their warranty by giving me a working unit.

Stopped working after five days.

The sensor worked perfectly for a few days, then it intermittently lost the ability to process my voice commands or hand motion. The defect occurred about 50% of the time, so I returned the can.

Bought back our counter.

We have looked at this can for over a year and finally decided to just buy it. While the trash side is smaller than. What we had before, having the recycling bin has given us back the area on the CPI yet that we would store items before running them out to the cannon the garage.
The sensor and voice control work pretty well. It is amazing how fast you get used to waving or talking to your can. We go to other homes and it takes us a few tries to figure out “normal” cans again.
Will very likely buy more of their products. They are expensive but they are well engineered and beautifully made. If we have this for half as long as our previous can, it is actually very affordable. The liners are a bit expensive but again, they fit great and don’t waste any space.

The simple things in life just make it easier

Love this trash can! Truly thought having an automated trash can was a little overkill in the kitchen, BUT this really makes life a little easier every day when doing food prep in the kitchen.
Husband thought it was a reckless expense but he is actually enjoying it now too!

Does not always open on command.

This is a replacement for the first one, and it still doesn’t open on command. Every three days I have to unplug it and reply it in. This is really annoying.
