Doesn't Always Work

Thankfully Simple Human has a great warranty (5-year) because we are on our third sensor can at this time. The first two both had problems after several months of use. The last can we had was completely dysfunctional...we had to keep the lid propped open with a lint roller because it shut as soon as it opened. I'm really hoping this third can will work out.

I had to convince my wife to let me get this, but she has expressed often since how much she loves it. Being able to open the trash with your voice, due to dirty hands, is one of her favorite things about it. I like the ease of emptying the recycling with the bucket.

My partner bought this a few years ago and loves it since he adores all things automatic. I thought he was ridiculous with his fancy-smancy new toy since I'm "old school." I'm just wanted a normal trashcan at a much lower price point. I pulled the trigger, bought myself one, and now I'm so happy. It really comes in handy when both hands are full and you need to open the lid....problem solved. The recycling bucket in the same place cemented the deal since I no longer need two separate cans laying around. I have a small kitchen, so space is key. Now I can gladly say I have entered the "fancy-smancy" world!!

Works inconsistently

While the motion sensor is reliable, the voice command does not always work. The garbage can otherwise is aesthetically pleasing.

Finally working, third attempt, but we're happy with this one.

Prior to getting a fully functioning garbage can, we had 2 incidents with SimpleHuman cans where the batteries would get zapped overnight and the voice command didn't work on either. The third time was the charm, now this one works for both voice and sensor, and we like the look and size. My husband especially likes the way the top opens, our old sensor can was great but the bag would snag every time a full bag was pulled out of the can, and it was super frustrating. The way the layers of the lid work on this one it's not an issue and we also love the ease of pulling out the recycling bucket, previously we had our recycling stacking up on the counter next to the can and had to make trips multiple times a week to take them out. Giving this 4 stars mainly because of the terrible experiences getting non-working cans, at this price point it's kind of worrying and we are a little concerned that the life of this can might be short given these negative initial experiences.
