I have been using a corded-electric lawnmower for about four years, and while it has worked fine it has been a hassle to drag around 150-feet of electric cord. I bought this cordless lawnmower in July, and after two months of using it I'm very happy with the results. It is not a heavy lawnmower, so it doesn't need to be self-propelled. And given the shape of my lawn, a self-propelled lawnmower would be much more of a headache than a benefit.
Not only does this get rid of the hassle of dragging the cord around, but it has been doing a better job of cutting the grass to a nice even length. I think part of that is that I'm able to concentrate more on the mowing, instead of constantly futzing around with the cord as I go back-and-forth on my lawn. And another part is that the wheels on the SunJoe seem a little wider than the ones on my previous lawnmower, so it tends to stay level even though the ground under my lawn is a little uneven in places. A few people have remarked that my lawn seems to be looking better this summer, even though they don't know I have the new lawnmower.
I run the SunJoe without the clippings catcher, and (as some others have noted) the exit-path for the grass clippings tends to get blocked up when you're not using the clippings-catcher. This is more likely to happen when I've let the grass grow longer. The lawnmower starts making an odd little "thunk"-ing sound when this happens. This is a little annoying, but it only takes a few seconds to stop the lawnmower and lift up the back-flap to clear out the blockage. I suspect there are ways to make this less likely -- the most obvious one is to not wait a week after the lawn needs to be cut! (although sometimes the weather forces me to wait)
I'm quite happy after two months. I'll be interested to see what I think of it after two or three years.
As luck would have it, my lawn is large enough that the battery-charge dies about 10 minutes before I'm done with the lawn, but I have a SnowJoe snowblower which uses the exact same battery, so I can just switch batteries to finish the last section.
The iON16LM cordless mower is easy to use and quite effective. I have a small lawn which is quite dense, and this mower handles it with ease -- I've never had a problem finishing on a single charge with (apparently) plenty to spare. It delivers a nice even cut, and is lightweight and easy to maneuver. Mowing height is ridiculously easy to adjust. I haven't had any occasion to call for service, but the company seems responsive so far. I've been using my new mower for about 3 months now and am quite happy with it.
I've been very happy with this mower. It mows well, and I do not miss fiddling with gas, oil, air cleaners, and spark plugs at all. I can easily mow my lawn on a single battery charge. I was a little worried that I was going to spend all my time emptying the bag after the first time, when my grass was quite high, but when I'm doing a reasonably good job keeping up, I need empty it only once or twice per session.
I can't say enough about this mower. It gets into tight spaces that a riding lawn mower can't. It cuts through high weeds with no problem. It is light enough for me to bring wherever I want. I was shocked at how easy it was to use and operate-no gas, no mixing. By far, my favorite yard tool so far!
I'm so glad I made the switch from my old monster gas mower to my new compact sun joe electric mower. I did a lot of research before deciding on the purchase of the Sun Joe. I was considering an electric mower for my smaller lawn after having rockscaped most of my lot. After determining that electric would be the most cost-effective option given the smaller size of my lot, this particular model checked all the boxes in terms of price and features. Specifically, I wanted a cordless, compact, lightweight unit with a long-lasting battery and a bag for clippings. The extra bonus with this model is that the unit is foldable, a feature that I'll be using when it's in storage off season. One thing we had to get used to vs. the gas mower is to remember to remove the battery between uses. What's been nice is that the battery needed charging only once this season (May to September) and has never completely died on us. A huge plus with electric mowers in general is the added conveniences of not needing to worry about filling it with gas and keeping gas on hand, not needing to change the oil or deal with the other fluids/part maintenance that comes with owning a gas mower. It's also much quieter than a gas mower. It made mowing less of a chore, that and my son now being a teenager and able to take the chore over from his mom ;-D This was one of my best purchases of 2018, and I'd recommend this Sun Joe mower to anyone with a small- to medium-sized lawn.
