I downsized recently and now have a small bit of grass to mow. I'm 62 and love how light and easy everything is. Doesn't matter that it's not self propelled because it's super light. Takes me about 15 minutes start to finish with emptying two bags of grass. Cuts well and has all the power I need. Never have had to charge twice during mowing. Brings me to another point. You can remove the battery and put the charger in the laundry room for example to charge so you don't have to have electrical outlet by your mower. That was great for me as I don't have an outlet in my shed. Only used 6 times but so far so good.

Very happy with this purchase

It worked great for my 1st run. Instant start by pushing the start button and pulling the handle. It was easy to push, and it gave my lawn a nice cut using height adjustment # 5 (out of 6). I didn't bother to use the small attachable grass catching bag because my yard is too big and I'd be emptying it every couple of minutes. This mower probably won't work well on excessively long grass, so if you have a mini jungle, you might have a struggle with your 1st mowing session. The one thing I'm disappointed about is the fact that this mower has no built in mulching capability… but I can live with that. The ION16LM uses the same lithium-ion 40-volt rechargeable battery as the SnowJoe ION18SB cordless snow blower, so it also has a maximum run time of 40 minutes.
I just purchased this after having used a Snow joe snow blower the last 2 winters. So far I have used it twice and it works great. It could easily mow my front and back yards on a single battery. I like that it is very easy to adjust the height, and that I can keep the grass pretty long, 3", as I'm trying to fill in a bunch of bare spots this spring and it doesn't disturb my seeds.
Incredibly easy to use, and my 3 year old can easily "help me" push the lawn mower as there is a bar in the middle he can push. Just like with my snow blower, it is great not having to deal with gas and maintenance.
This mower is well built and is ideal for trim work or for small lawns. The batteries run about an hour before needing recharging. Compared to a gas engine mower, it is very light and easy to maneuver around shrubs, flower pots, etc. Also compared to a gas engine mower it is much quieter with only the sound of the electric motor and the blade whir.It has several height settings which only requires moving one lever. Most push mowers require adjustment of each wheel which can be quite time consuming and difficult to accomplish. I highly recommend this mower highly for trim work or small lawns.

A clean, lean cutting machine

I have owned the Sun Joe iON 40v cordless for only one week, but it did a superb job trimming our medium-size lawn in 30 minutes (less than 1/3rd of an acre). An onlooker observed that the cut looked significantly better than the job just done by a gas-powered mower on the neighboring property. The height adjustment feature is very easy with six levels for the cutting deck, though I found levels 1 to 3 to be very low cuts. So most people will want to set the cutting level at 4, 5 or 6, particularly if you end up using the mulching feature that is planned for release later this month. (Mulching helps the environment and can provide natural fertilizer free of nasty chemicals). The bag is small, as is the case with many cordless models, but it is very simple to empty quickly and then to re-attach in a matter of seconds. I wonder if Sun Joe might consider developing a significantly bigger bag for this model as another option, though this may be harder to engineer than I have imagined. I also had much success this past winter with the Snow Joe iOn cordless snow thrower, and I truly welcome now having two 40v batteries since adding this mower which shares the same power source as the very reliable snow thrower.
Pros: Lightweight, Easy to Push & Steer, Adjustable Cut-Lengths
Cons: Bagger Is Small
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great but could use a few tweaks

First off, this is a fantastic piece of technology!!! I absolutely love how easy it is to use and not having to deal with gas or oil. Assembly is minimal and it doesn't take a lot of effort to push, the latter will depend on your terrain and personal physical condition. Why did I rate it only 3 stars you ask?
I have barely a 1/2 acre to mow and I have to stop for one charge between 2/3 and 3/4 completion. I get the most operating time if i stick to a strict 3-4 day mow schedule. I also have to leave it set to the highest cutting length, mostly due to terrain. I'm sure if I mowed every other day I could probably set it shorter, but I feel like anything lower than the longest setting is too short. You're almost better off buying an entirely new machine as an extra battery is almost 75% of the cost of the machine. I personally don't mind stopping to charge too much, it's a nice water break and I just switch over to some other chores that I will end up doing immediately after.
My second issue is the bag. It is so small that I need to empty it 6-10 times and I feel like the constant start/stop is part of what is killing the battery. It will run just fine without emptying the bag but you will need to walk a bit slower and make smaller cutting passes so as to not overload the machine. I purchased the "bagless chute" in hopes of getting around the bag issues, but the attachment is NOT a chute by any means. It simply blocks the chute into the bag and turns it into a mulcher. I plan to fabricate a real chute myself in the near future, we'll see what happens.
Finally, let's talk about the blade. The metal is so soft.....DO NOT HIT ANYTHING OTHER THAN GRASS!!! Rocks of any kind? You might as well buy a replacement blade now. Branches are a definite no and even some twigs will severely mess it up. Best to invest in a file or grinder if you have any trees around your mowing area. It should also be noted that your "16-inch" deck is barely 3-4 inches of actual cutting blade. Making a full 16-inch pass not advisable at all.
I should also add that the spring inside the locking button for the battery cover was not seated correctly when it arrived. This makes the cover bounce a bit and causes the battery to occasionally unseat itself. Tape worked ok to hold the cover closed, but a small cardboard spacer around the battery really did the trick. I'll be able to reseat the spring eventually, but it is not really in the realm of repair for an average user.
Overall, again a great machine. Throw in a real bagless option or a better quality blade and you got 4 stars. An extra battery...8 stars.
I purchased this product with a wary eye and a tight fist. I don't like wasting my money! So, when my lawn mower arrived I couldn't wait for the weekend to arrive so that I could try it out. I was impressed. Had I known at first how good, easy and how light this product was going to be, I might have considered a bigger model! I liked the size I chose mainly so my wife could use it when I wasn't around for grass cutting duties. But this product is so light and easy to use I'm wondering if maybe I might have undersold myself.
We have about a 25 by 25 foot strip in the front that is steep for our zero turn,so we push that section. Our gas push gave out an we got this one. It works great ,battery lasts an it can cut fairly tall grass. The body of the mower is hard plastic though an the first one cracked by the front wheel . Called Sun Joe an they sent a new one right away an we sent back the broken one. Pretty painless but be warned the plastic could be stronger an may break . Sun Joe was great about it though an we are happy with the mower .
