Sadly disappointed

Pros: Weight; price; see-thru oil gauge; battery life
I chose this saw partly because of the light weight. I’m a 64-yr-old woman, and I can easily manage this one. The battery worked for the 3 hours I used it (not constant cutting - hauling off limbs as well).
Cons: Ease of use, cutting effectiveness, oil spray, no hook to bring cut limbs down; angle not adjustable & blocks my view of blade; when it’s taken apart to clean, the blade/chain is harder to put back in place than my other one - takes some fiddling; battery is too hard to get in & out.
This is the third pole saw, and the second cordless one I have owned. I bought it last week to trim a mesquite tree in my front yard. I was really disappointed in its performance. It seemed to chew the wood more than cut it, and a 2-in limb that my other one would have cut in a few seconds seemed to take forever for this one to chew through. The first day I used it everything seemed ok. I only cut a few limbs that day. The next day, it seemed like a different saw. I had to re-tighten the chain after every second or third cut, it seemed to need oil too frequently, and I noticed it had sprayed a fine mist of oil all over my white leather work gloves. The chain wouldn’t stay “in the track.”
All in all, I can’t recommend this product.

I was given this item in exchange for a review. I have to say, it's a very convenient tool. I can't tell you the number of times I cut through and electrical power cord. So being battery operated is great. When the pole is extended, it gets a little top heavy. But not too bad. I do wish the 24 volt battery would last a little longer though.

Great tool, works very well

Bought my 1st 40V G-MAX tool 3 months ago ... this Pole Saw was my 6th purchase. I've had a "115VAC corded" pole saw since 2012 (lighter shade of green brand "X") and really wanted to go cordless. Instead of the separate intermediate pole like this Greenworks, my corded one has the two ends telescope out from the mid section. With the mid pole in place, the Greenworks is about the same length as the corded saw fully extended however it seems to be a bit stiffer / not as flimsy as the telescoping corded saw. Their lengths are also similar with the intermediate pole removed vs. the telescoping saw fully retracted.
Trimmed all the dead branches out of the 3 trees in my front yard and pruned back a few other trees as well. Maybe 2-3 hours total work; pole saw run time maybe 20-30 minutes total and used only 2 bars or 1/2 of the 2Ah battery ... pretty efficient battery usage considering it is a standard brushed type motor.

I checked the chain speed after using and found the sprocket turns at 4650 RPM which calculates out to 340 IPS (no load speed). The corded one goes quite a bit faster as expected (8160 RPM or 598 IPS). I had not used my corded one for at least a year, so I was surprised there was this much of a difference. I certainly did not feel this Greenworks was lacking in speed because I was perfectly happy with the rate at which it cut through branches ... maybe chain speed is not as critical for this type of work. For comparison, it's chain speed is 4x the 85 IPS rate that my 18V 10" brand "X" chain saw runs at (which IS painfully slow for a chainsaw).

Definitely like not having a CORD for this type of tool though, and as I said above I did not feel like it was lacking in speed or power during use. With the 2Ah battery, this tool weighs 9.66 lbs. where my corded one weighs 9.00 lbs. Remove the intermediate pole and the Greenworks is only 8.42 lbs. However in use, the corded one is actually heavier as there will be cord attached to it constantly tugging downward.

Would this tool be better with a more powerful & efficient brushless motor ?? Maybe ... as long as there would be no added weight. Compared to the other Greenworks 40V tools i own ... 16" chainsaw, 21" mower, 14" string trimmer, blower/vac, & 20" snow thrower ... I feel a brushless motor is mandatory for these tools to get the desired performance and decent run time per battery charge. For this Pole Saw though, the brushed motor is fine.
Very happy with all of my Greenworks 40V G-MAX tools as well as the performance and run time you can get out of the 2Ah, 2.5Ah and 4Ah batteries.

Hello Righton,

We are sorry to hear about this experience a runtime of three-minutes and charge time of four-hours it not average. Please consider giving us a call at 1-888-909-6757 or send an email to info@greenworkstools.com to look into further options for resolution. In the meantime we would like to go the charging procedures you to see if you may find it helpful:

1.To charge the battery align the guide rails on the battery pack with the corresponding slots found on the charger. Slide the battery all the way down into the charger until you hear it click into the charger. If no click is heard, the battery has not been fully secured into the charger.

2. The battery should not be able to slide out of the charger without holding down on the battery latch. If the battery can be easily slid out of the charger, the battery and charger are not fully connected.

When the charger is plugged into the outlet, there should be a power light that appears indicating the charger is receiving power. When the battery is fully inserted into the charger a secondary light will appear indicating the battery is being charged. There are also LED lights located on the battery that indicate the amount of charge the battery has left. To activate this feature, push the button also called the BCI switch on the front of the battery. These LED lights will now illuminate. For example, if all four lights illuminate, this shows the battery is fully charged.

Here's a video guide on how to charge the battery https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=seOWkl4mIDs&list=PLlLcNiMNCMn_Qgcl7B3d1ly97pzCRZvjj&index=7.

Hope this helps.

Love it but it could be better

I love this tool so much better than the gas powered one I used to use near the house and in the orchard. It's light weight and easy to handle. Best of all, you just push the switch and it runs, and let go of the switch and it stops -- no starting cord to pull. But I would appreciate a few improvements:
• offer it with a 4ah battery
• improve the chain adjustment mechanism as on other Greenworks chainsaws
• sell spare extension poles in order to extend the reach to 11 feet.
I would recommend this to a friend!
