Frustrating hedge trimmer

We have used this as a hedge trimmer only a few times. Each time it gets jammed in a way that the blades won't move Sometimes after oiling and loosening nut/screw we can free it, but now that isn't even working Very frustrating that there isn't an easy way to free debris from inside (i guess) the mechanism.

Hello handlebarks. Thank you for sharing your experience with the 40V Cordless 8" Pole Saw with Hedge Trimmer Attachment Combo Kit. We understand how frustrating it can be when the hedge trimmer attachment repeatedly jams, especially after only limited use. When the blades stop moving, the most common technical causes are: 1. Debris packed between the dual-action blades Fine twigs, fibrous stems, or sap buildup can bind the reciprocating blades. Even if the exterior looks clear, compacted debris can lodge between the blade plates. 2. Sap and resin buildup Sticky plant material increases friction and can prevent the gearbox from driving the blades. After each use, the blades should be cleaned with a resin solvent and lightly lubricated. 3. Blade tension adjustment If the blade bar nuts are overtightened, this can restrict blade movement. They should be snug but not torqued down excessively, as the blades require slight lateral movement to reciprocate properly. 4. Gearbox protection / overload condition If cutting material exceeds the rated cutting capacity (typically around 5/8" for most hedge trimmer attachments in this class), the motor may stall. Repeated stalls can trigger internal protection or strain the drive mechanism. Recommended steps: Remove the battery before inspection. Manually check if blades slide when moved carefully (with gloves). Fully clean the blade channel using a brush and resin cleaner. Apply light machine oil across the full blade length. Ensure blade fasteners are not overtightened. Avoid cutting material beyond the specified diameter rating. If the blades are now completely seized and cannot be freed, this may indicate internal gearbox binding rather than simple debris obstruction. We recommend contacting Greenworks Success so the unit can be properly assessed. They can be reached either using the online chat function, on Greenworks Tools page, accessible by clicking “Chat Now” in the bottom corner of your screen, Chat with a Live Agent or by calling 1-888-909-6757. We appreciate you bringing this forward, as repeated jamming under normal use is not the intended performance of the tool.
