Works well, battery not great

I remove a lot of trees every year, so I am not your average consumer. This saw is for my ground person. The saw overall works well. However, even with the 40V 4AH battery, the runtime is not great. But, if you are mostly limbing or making a smaller number of cuts, this is a very reasonable saw.

I have enjoyed mine. It cuts well and battery last a fair time. Only draw back is the chain keeps jumping off.

I have used the saw to cut down about 5-6 trees of about 6"-10" in diameter and it has worked fairly well. I like that it is much quieter and easier to start than gas saws. My only complaint is it only comes with one battery. Would be nice for it to have included 2. I am fixing that issue by ordering a pole saw now.

Leaks bar & chain oil when stored
on December 18, 2021
Posted by: Shoe
I bought this chainsaw in 03/2020. This winter I stored it in the basement like I did the first year, but when I picked it up, it had leaked all of the bar & chain oil. What a mess. The manual I got back in early 2020 did not mention to remove the oil when storing it. The new manual for this unit that I pulled up on line now does say to remove the oil.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hello Shoe,

Thank you for your review. We are very sorry to hear about the issue that you have encountered. We greatly appreciate your honest feedback as it gives us a better understanding of where we need to improve moving forward. We are sorry to hear this information was missing from your manual, all our our Chain manual's do provide the following note, "It is normal for oil to seep from the saw when not in use. To prevent seepage, empty the oil tank after
each use then run for one minute. When storing the unit for a long period of time (three months or longer) be
sure the chain is lightly lubricated; this will prevent rust on the chain and bar sprocket". Perhaps it was missed nonetheless, we will pass this review along to the proper channels to investigate. If you have further questions and would like us to look into this with you, we would be more than happy to discuss. 1-888-909-6757.

Leaks Bar and Chain Oil

I just bought this just recently, and I have already used it on several occasions. Overall I like the saw, particularly its ease of use. My one criticism is that it leaks oil when it is not in use.

Hello Gent,

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to read that you ultimately enjoy the performance of this chainsaw.

All chainsaws will slowly “leak” oil in storage (mostly from it seeping off the chain). To prevent excessive leakage, store with as little oil left in the reservoir as possible, the chainsaws flat with a rag beneath them and the pole saws upright with the motor head at the top.

During first use users should only fill the reservoir to roughly half full and check periodically to see if it needs to be refilled. Eventually, you will become accustomed to the amount of oil required for each job. This procedure will make it easier to store the unit as oil free as possible and reduce oil run off.

Hope this helps!

Just received recently, fast delivery, uses same battery ad mower

Just got it after bad wind storm took down a lot of tree branches. Quick delivery. It runs quiet. Note, it does not come with bar and chain ool. After a few cuts the blade came off. Off, it was supposed to be pretensioned. It went back on easy enough. It uses the same batter as my greenworks mower, so now I have two batteries and chargers. It is heavier than expected.

Lots of power and endurance, but it takes too long to charge the battery, and the chain falls off every time I use it. And yes, I keep the chain tight.

Hello Goon,

We are sorry to hear of the issues you are experiencing, there could possibly be some wood jammed in the chain. Remove the battery as you check the chain for any blockages. If nothing is blocking the chain, make sure your chain tensioning knob is properly engaged. If that pin on the threaded tensioning shaft is correctly positioned in the bar, then it should tension fine. Please note, this chain saw comes standard with a three-year warranty. This is more than double the industry standard and adds to your peace of mind. When you purchase this chainsaw, you can be comfortable in the knowledge that it will either keep working effectively for the duration of its warranty, or you’ll be able to get it fixed by the Greenworks at minimal cost to yourself.
We can provide guided instructions on how to tighten the chain by simply calling into the call center at 1-888-909-6757 (1-888-90WORKS).

No more pull cords!!!

The 40v chainsaw cuts like a champ, and the 4.0 battery lasts a long time. I love the push button start. I had a tree fall close to my barn, it was over 12 inches at the base, the saw made short work of it. Another great Greenworks product.
