The $25 Xiaomis sound worlds better. By comparison these lack clarity and depth. I have a pair of $40 Sony earphones that also sound better. I got these for $20 and feel like they are almost not worth it, so for the retail they are most definitely overpriced. I've bought $150 earphones that are average sounding so I guess at least these are a little above average...
I do like the packaging, especially the carrying case. I'd probably never use it but it is the most practical earphone carrying case I've seen so far.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Purchase a NI because it was on sale for $18 plus and wanted to hear the sound quality. When I received the headphone I tested out on my smartphone and it sounds great. It is loud, clear, and good bass. I have a hearing problem and this headphone is so loud I won't have the volume to 100%. I wish I purchased more than one when it was on sale.

Always had this wish to have a earphone set by Harmon Kardon. As if like a blessing in disguise, I suddenly came across this deal where these were being offered for a mere $18.99. I was quick to bag it, though feeling skeptical after placing the order, thinking I again probably invested in something extraordinarily 'ordinary'. However, I am so happy it was not.
At first, it seemed to be just those ordinary earphones. However, it was obviously taking its time to 'burn' itself, only to blow my mind off once it was ready!
After around 12-14 hours of usage, it started opening up its marvelous qualities.
Bass: Seemed a bit on the lower side in the beginning, seems quite good now. Not that these will blow your mind with the thump, but, yeah, it is - to be humble - well present. I am not a very big bass lover, not at least always. I have my preferences of genres where I love the bass. In others, I rather want the music to be pretty clear. So it scores perfectly in that arena for me, as I did try out some Hip-Hop and R&B, and I liked the bass. A bit less though, but as I said earlier, I am not a bass-head. An important point - THEY JUST DON'T CRACK AT THE HIGHEST OF VOLUMES.
Score (for me) - 4.5/5
Clarity - Well, these blow my mind in this arena. These are, believe it or not, amazingly clear. I seem to have opened a whole new world of music right now, going on transferring the older songs I have missed experiencing in these earphones. And oh yeah, they sound indelible and 'delicious'! Even the old classics like by A-Ha and ABBA seem so fresh and wonderful!
Score (for me) - 5/5
Comfort - The squarish design at first made me skeptical as to how soon they would start to hurt my ears. Surprisingly, they don't. I have been using these earphones during my night's sleep, and honestly, I don't feel any pain in the morning after having dozed off listening to hours of such delicate sound all night! However, a matter of concern is the ear-buds. They are a bit 'harsh' for my ears, in a way that they tend to cause more friction if these are plugged in and out frequently over a short period of time, which is when I feel a heating sensation in my ears. I just wish Harmon Kardon had done a bit better in this arena, by providing a bit better quality ear-buds.
Score (for me) - 4/5
Durability - Well, I have used these only for a week or so. So commenting on this would be unethical (hence I skip the score for this part). Still, I would point out what I have seen. The wires seem to have a plastic coating, covering the actual wires inside. I have seen some bend marks near the junctions, so to say, near the remote, the earphone link and the 3.5mm jack. I just hope they don't fall apart soon.
Compatibility - Obviously, in today's world of electronics, a 3.5mm jack is supposed to work with all devices having a 3.5mm connector or else you could use those converters for your 2.5mm connector. So yeah, if your device is not ready to accept Harmon Kardon after using not-so-good earphones, that is justified ;) Just kidding. It should work with all devices.
Packaging - I am in love with the pack! Seems like a ring-set, gifted to you by Harmon Kardon. And indeed, they are! Minimalist yet sophisticated. After all, minimalism is always the keyword for sophistication, ain't it?
Score (for me) - 5/5
Finally, Value for money - The original price, I can see, is around $99 (including shipping and taxes). However, getting these for an absolutely awesome price of $18.99 and then commenting otherwise on value for money, would simply mean I wish for a Hummer at the price of a Chevy Spark! So yeah, Harmon Kardon, you score more than 5 on this ground.
Score (for me) - 10/5!
Well, that almost wraps up my review for these earphones. I am just enjoying my new acquisition, so much that I forgot that I have got to study for a test!
If you want these earphones, don't hesitate. You might be having great musical days waiting for you!
I would recommend this to a friend!

These were quite the disappointment. Not very good at 7 of 10 volume. Bass sounds weak. Though they are good for my course dictation playback, that is not why I bought them

I was surprised by the harsh metallic sound of this earphone system. The remote volume and microphone for phone conversations work well

Disappointing ear buds.

I had these about 3 weeks, and I could not be more disappointed. Very poor stability and fit in the ear with all three sizes of ear buds, and there is practically no low end performance.
