Great Dishwasher, but with a few engineering flaws
on September 16, 2015

My parents have been living with this dishwasher I picked for them, about 2 weeks now. Honestly, it's too bad to see it's discontinued, because it's a great feature package. Nice machine with premium features like dual silverware baskets, and a stainless steel door liner, with plastic tub.
First impressions, the design is well thought out with a simple, clean look, and tactile buttons that give feedback when pressed. They're durable plastic. None of that junky membrane stuff that other brands have. Membrane buttons wear and crack after only a few years of use. the racks are nicely laid out, and the spread wide tines in the lower back, though not perfect for 100% of the dishes out there, are nice for larger stoneware, which seems to be the fad these days. One caveat is that the silverware baskets are 'outside' the racks, and not inside. So if you move or remove one/both of them, you don't gain any rack space. It's empty space.
INSTALLATION: As an engineer, this was time consuming even for me. There was some assembly required with the cabinet brackets. The machine is so low to the ground, make sure you hook everything up before you push it back. The machine seemed very well built EXCEPT for the rear leveling legs. It seems like the screw holes for those were drilled and tapped at sloppy, incorrect angles. It is important to make sure the machine is absolutely level, or maybe even -1 degree back, so that soap tabs properly eject from the soap cup.
This machine is very quiet. And it washes the top and bottom separately. It's barely noticeable unless you're in the kitchen. Something odd; the drain pump pulses when it drains. This seems to be normal, so don't be alarmed. Due to the fact that is uses such little water, it runs the spray arms separately, like I said. But the spray still seems powerful. With that said, it is necessary to use the silverware cell covers so items don't touch. If plates and silverware touch, they might not get clean. If everything is loaded properly and in their tines/cells, everything does come out very clean.
The cycles are longer than your old 10-15 year old dishwasher. It uses half the water, so it takes double the time. It's not just GE, but all modern brands now. So schedule around the long cycles; like before bed time. One glaring issue with this whole series of GE dishwashers is the soap cup dispenser. It is awkwardly placed very close to the silverware baskets. So it IS possible if tall forks, knives or utensils are placed near it, it might not open, releasing the soap. Even then, there doesn't seem to be any water spray directed at the soap cup, so the soap is not flushed out all the time. It's even worse if you use powder.
In summary, my parents are liking the machine, and we'll see how reliable it stays over time. I would recommend this model. And the issues it has, don't seem to be too critical, as all modern dishwashers are different and less powerful than their predecessors used to be.

Wish I had researched this purchase more

I made a rush decision in purchasing this dishwasher because mine was broken. I wish I spent more time looking. This dishwasher does an ok job of washing dishes but it takes so long. Up to 2 1/2 hours with the dry cycle. The silverware rack on the bottom rack blocks the dishwasher tabs from coming out if you position it by the door. We moved it to the side and had better results. There is no rinse cycle which I miss. It does not wash as well as my 13 year old ken more did. The spacing of the tines to hold the dishes is not good for bowls. My glasses tip over easily on the top rack due to these little bumps on the upper rack.

I bought his appliance approx. 4 months ago and have been satisfied with it overall but have had 3-4 instances where the soap ray had not opened during the wash cycle and had to was everything over again by hand as the dishes and silverware had suffered baked on food and stains. Is there a problem with the soap trays not opening on this model????

Some Buyer's Remorse
on November 11, 2015

This dishwasher was bought to replace a 20 year-old Maytag, based on reviews and ratings. Pluses: (1) Does a very good job washing dishes (2) is extremely quiet Minuses: (1) The interior layout and lack of movable tines makes it difficult to place cooking items (bowls, casseroles, etc.) in the washer. It was obviously designed for just plates and saucers. (2) the "normal" wash cycle is very long (about 3 hours) (3) it can be difficult to remove items from the utensil baskets if they fall down into the basket section (4) it holds less than its predecessor despite having the same
dimensions and (5) the flip-down shelves are too short and don't hold much. They also don't do a good job of supporting stemmed items like wine glasses.
