Great product except or latch

Product has worked well for a year or so but I was always careful not to leave the latch open because it sticks out and appeared weak. One day I turned at my desk and hit the latch with leg and it ripped right off. This appears to be its only weak spot. I like the unit and bought another just like it. A replacement latch would be nice. Not sure of load capacity but I have always lifted it from the side if it was slightly heavy with papers.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Came with a broken latch

Bought this last year for this years taxes, didn't realize half of the thin piece of plastic securing the latch was broken (was shrink wrapped when I bought it) The other half separated soon after and now my latch is useless.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Good idea but it broke

I bought this a couple of months ago, but the disk that hold the hinges broke. I carried it into a courthouse 3 time, and one fell out, then I was two hand carrying it and the other did. DEFECTIVE. Are there replacement parts?
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Product is ideal for transporting files and documents

I purchased several Portable File Boxes to transport my files and documents. It has a very good look to it and it is very functional. I travel to different areas of the state to meet with clients. This product allows me to store files and documents that are specific to the region that I am traveling to By using several File Boxes. I place them in my car trunk and when I reach my destination, I'll pull the file box that contains the documents that I need and I'm off to my appointment. These file boxes are very cost effective and it saves me time, and I am always organized. There is one draw back to this product; the latch will break apart after months of use. However, when I contacted Sterilite to report the problem, they mailed me replacement latches at no charge. I've had my file boxes for a couple of years now. Great price- Great product.

Portable file box

I have 2 of the Sterilite Portable file boxes. They are very useful for temporary or permanent storage of your files. The first 1 we bought was used to keep track of our monthly bills and receipts. Later as our paperwork grew we switched to using the file box for only the current month and then moved the contents to Banker Boxes for 7 year storage.
I bought a 2nd boxes for current projects and activities: maps and vacation literature, home projects ideas, and other items we are working on.
The only problem we have experienced is the locking latch on the front breaking the tabs that hold it in place, but they still work.

Great Except for Latch Support

I use three of these boxes for my personal files and they travel with me north for the summer and south for the winter. I have used these boxes for years and find them very useful, however two of them have broken when the side latch breaks off because the thin plastic on the bottom of the hinge insert breaks off (not the hinge itself). This part cannot be replaced without buying a whole new container. Perhaps the engineers of this box can widen the plastic where the holes are to make it more durable. Other than that, I love these boxes as well as the many other Sterilite storage products. I use the containers at my cottage to keep the mice out of my linens and dry foods over the winter. As well, I use the larger containers for transporting things back and forth in the spring and fall.

What a Great File Box!

This file box is wonderful. It is especially useful, since it can be carried anywhere. The top has space for office supplies, pens, scissors, clips etc., and it smaps shut. The rest of the file box fits letter size files and is great for anyone who needs to take their office records with them. Also great for the home because it is just the right size to fit into a small home office area. Sterilite comes up with the greatest products! Couldn't live without them.
