Solid Laptop With Quality Control Issues

Was nice while it lasted. Really enjoyed this laptop but the speakers kept acting up even after two separate calls to tech support. I would recommend this laptop with an extended warranty.

Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear about your experience. Below I have provided steps to perform a hard reset if this should happen again. We also recommend running a hardware diagnostic test. I have provided the link below.

1. Power off the laptop. Press and hold the power button for 10-15 seconds.
2. Disconnect the AC adapter or power cord, and remove the battery.
Note: For Dell laptops that have a non-removable battery, see the Dell knowledge base article How to reset Real Time Clock (RTC) to recover your Dell XPS, Dell Latitude, or Dell Precision laptop.
Note: For certain Dell Latitude laptops, we recommend you try and recover the laptop using the forced ePSA method. See the Dell knowledge base article How to Use Forced ePSA to Recover from POST or Boot Failure.
3. Disconnect all external devices or peripherals like USB drives, printer cables, and media cards (SD/xD).
4. Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to drain residual power.
5. Connect the AC adapter or power cord and the battery.
6. Power on the laptop.

Poor quality

Bought a new XPS13 i7 laptop to replace my previous laptop of 5 years. Unfortunately, I had to return it due to BSOD on the very first day. Returned it and got a second machine. After using a day the display goes dark for few seconds and comes back with colorful lines may be due to bad graphics chip. Had to return it. Got a third one, and had the exact same issue. This is Dell's top of the line computer, I shouldn't be having these issues right out of the box. Not sure if I will keep the third one or not.

Blue Screen and Freezing

Screen blacks out intermittently

I would not buy a Dell Computer. The screen would fairly often black out and then come back after 20 seconds or so. The tech support was very nice but they were unable to fix the problem.

Truly a nice laptop so far, having some concerns about the video/refresh as it appears to hopefully not be too concerning and the graphics driver updates are coming to resolve my refresh concerns. Also, if you require additional ports other than a single thunderbolt port, you may want to consider another model XPS.

Sleek, Fast, and Powerful

The XPS-13 (9310) is a beautiful laptop. Fast to boot and it's got an amazing build quality (solid). I chose the 9310 because of the 11 Gen Tiger Lake Processor, and the FHD+ (1920 X 1200) screen. The main function of this laptop will be for photo editing. My raw files are huge. The combination of the Tiger Lake processor and the FHD+ screen allows me to step through Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom with ease -- and speed.
The touchpad is very responsive, but I don't use it for editing (purchased a Bluetooth mouse separately). The keyboard is nicely spaced for such a small laptop, and the carbon fiber deck adds a look of professionalism that makes this laptop a joy to work with.
Although you can get this machine with a 4K monitor, I'm not sure there'd be much benefit on such a small machine. Even though I use twin QHD Wide 2560 X 1440p monitors (Dell S2719DM) on my studio desktop machine, the FHD+ on the XPS-13 is really all that's needed on a laptop of this size.
There are no USB-C ports on this laptop; nor does it have a full-size SD card reader; Two things I really wish it had. I'm assuming the lack of ports is because of the small size of the laptop. Although it does have a micro SD card reader, all of my cameras utilize full-size SD cards. From a workflow perspective, I'll have to use my small/portable SD card reader, and connect that to one of the two thunderbolt 4 ports (via the Dell-provided dongle), to move my raw files to the XPS-13.
Dell does offer more ports on their 15's and 17's, but for 2021, I want to use as small of a footprint as possible, so having a 13" that could keep up with my work (even with very few ports) was more important than stepping up in size.
The build on my XPS-13 is with 16GB Ram and 512GB/SSD. The last laptop I had was an Alienware 15 - which weighed in at ~7.75 pounds! The XPS-13 is just over 2.5 pounds. I also opted for Windows 10 Pro, instead of the Home version.
It's my hope to be able to use the XPS-13 as an integral part of my daily workflow, for the next 5 years.
