DO NOT BUY! RFID reader fails, costing hundreds

GE puts RFID readers in their fridge to stop people from using counterfeit water filters.
And when this RFID reader fails, it stops you from using genuine GE water filters.
This means you can't use YOUR fridge which you paid for to dispense WATER or ICE unless you pay them hundreds of dollars.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We had the identical side by side fridge for 21 years and so we went with the same. Works great. Would like to see the beverage rack on the fridge door and the small bin on the freezer door on this newer model; seems like we lost both with the new model.

Best in class, Quiet, efficient, roomy!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This fridge has all the best features of my prior GE fridges. It is simply best value on the market. Roomy inside, has enough capacity to add an additional door shelf and interior shelf if needed. Cools evenly, it is whisper quiet, shelves are completely flexible in configuration. The freezer has lots of usable room and things don't get lost. Excellent icemaker (it is in the body of the freezer so none of the terrible issues of other makes which freeze up and don't work. Easy to change filter (unlike other makes) and efficient, reliable through door dispenser. Side by side configuration allows for excellent use of space and excellent accessibility. It also is more energy efficient because things don't get lost. Looks great and it is the first real "fingerprint free" stainless surface. There are two cosmetic issues I might ask them to improve (this is the fourth time we have purchased this same fridge and it seems to get better each time) My first opportunity for improvement issue is that the stainless on the doors is thin enough that it shows the depression for the ice/water dispenser on the freezer door. My second opportunity to improve on this is that the handles are very close together and can trap hands. I'd probably make those handles slimmer.

Ice/water splitter that holds the filtered after six years. That’s on us and KY hard water.
Control board and Front Panel died at seven years. No power surge. I have two different monitors for voltage/current plus an expensive surge protector on the unit from the very start.
Capacity was good. The baskets in the freezer were awful. I replaced all but one with shelves. The baskets were VERY difficult to slide forward. Fridge shelves were great. Good storage. LED lights were great. Temperature was very constant…yes, I had a device that measured it hourly over a year.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
