Extension mechanism broke
on June 19, 2023

The overall design is great. However, the internal mechanism for the plastic extension on the back stand is made of thin plastic and broke. Now the extension mechanism is loose and does not stay in place.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Awesome portable stand

I love how portable this stand is. I do wish it had the ability to fix the back leg a little closer to the front 2 legs for a slightly more vertical support but it would obviously be less stable.

5 stars for handsfree/desktop mode, 1 star for typing/sketching mode

If you plan to use the in handsfree or desktop mode, it a fantastic stand. Solidly built, secure, folds into a tiny shape for easy travel.Unfortunately, because the legs don't open wide enough, typing/sketching mode is almost unusable. I have an 11 inch ipad pro, and typing mode is not secure at all. the slightest touch on one side makes it tilt over.

Compass Pro

So rare that a piece of equipment can have such an impact on my office environment. The Compass Pro supports my iPad Air as a second monitor, takes little space and is portable. It also supports a larger ASUS monitor.

Perfect companion

Have wanted the Compass Pro for a while especially when reading on my iPad mini. The cover for the iPad mini works great as a stand for typing or playing games but I prefer a more steeper angle when reading hands free and this stand delivered.

I love the minimal footprint and the quality of the hardware. I use this for my iPad in a Sidecar configuration on my desk and it works perfectly.

Solid product but not 100 percent as previous TwelveSouth products I have purchased

The Compass Pro is well built and feels solid as all of their products do. I had no doubt this would be the case. I had some concerns in buying it which are proving to be true. I originally bought for my mother’s iPad Air 13” but instead will use myself with my iPad Pro 13”. Some thoughts below ...1. I like the retractable hooks at the bottom but feel they could have made them with a bit less range to keep the iPad more tight. I do understand it has to accommodate a wide range and thicknesses of iPad’s. In my mother’s case, she plays PCH.com games way beyond what is healthy. Her touch on her iPad is heavy and causes the iPad to shift around on the base. Thus will give her my existing stand and take this one.2. General elevation of the iPad on stand is good for most uses but would have liked a setting for higher angle. I find for FaceTime I need it really close to center my face or must sit up unnaturally. I am using it right now with the back leg not pushed fully out to keep iPad more upright. I am on table pad so not as concerned about it sliding. But on a smooth surface I might be concerned a little. I would say the general angle of the iPad is probably close to what my original iPad Pro was on the Apple keyboard case. Agains, good for most uses but not all. I personally, rather my iPad not leaning back quite so much.3. I do like it’s folding nature which will make easy to take with me on the go.4. Overall, it is solid and well worth the cost. No regrets. I still may purchase the more robust iPad stand they offer though for my room / music studio. I do use my iPad as an extension to Logic Pro on my MacBook Pro. So would want something with a little more flexibility in placement. I used to have their hoverbar which would be ideal for me now but it eventually wore out with plastic breaking around the base to the bar.
