So far, this router seems to be operating well. I bought it because the advertised specifications said it would cover between 3,000 and 5,000 square feet. Our house is about 1,600 square feet, and the router adequately covers the house, but it doesn't quite get to the patio like I had hoped. The router defaults to the 2.4 GHz band out there instead of remaining on the 5 GHz band. The problem with that is that I experience dropouts when I'm trying to watch TV on my smartphone outside. It's tolerable though, and I think the router is adequate.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I like the speed of this router, and I got it for a good price. But, after about a day, it got into a cycle of disassociating and reassociating some of the attached devices. Several of these events would occur each minute until I rebooted. Looking at various forums, this does not appear to be an uncommon problem. There are numerous "fixes" proposed, with uncertain results. I have not found any articles posted by ASUS addressing the problem. If I manage to solve this issue, I'm going to love this router.

Dear HKR Dave,
We do understand your disappointment with the product and the inconvenience this may have caused if you are experiencing connection problems.
To resolve the unstable connection, place it in a central location within your home, away from walls and obstructions, keep it elevated off the floor and away from electronic devices that may cause interference. Check if the router’s settings matches with your ISP’s modem credentials, verify if the PC or device connecting to the router is working properly and within range to the router, the router is within 30 feet to the ISP's modem, if not wired with a network cable, and ISP's internet service or connection is working properly or stable. Legacy devices may not work properly with WIFI-6, please check updates for these devices. Also, try connecting this manually to either 2.4GHz or 5GHz. Try resetting the router and reconfigure or set up the devices, again. Also, we recommend updating the router's firmware if it is running with an older version. Firmware is available for download at: https://www.asus.com/us/networking-iot-servers/wifi-routers/asus-wifi-routers/rt-ax3000/helpdesk_bios?model2Name=RT-AX3000.

Seems to be holding up well after 2 weeks, seems like a decent device. I have other ASUS routers in use going on 9 years, so I don't doubt this one will hold up.

I found this router from ASUS easy and painless to set up. My router needs are pretty basic, and to that point the RT-AX3000 works great. My only problem was registering the router with ASUS. I Googled registration problems with ASUS and it seems to a common issue. ASUS needs to address this mater because it tarnishes an overall positive experience.
