Looks fine, not comparable quality

Compared to other expert models, this one comes up a bit short. The lines and attention to detail on the batmobile was excellent and the cockpit action is smooth. Compare this to Ghostbusters, which doesn't have a very smooth popout action, and has a bunch of flex play in the doors. The lines in the front don't match the barrel curves that should be invented in the front, missing the chrome front rails detail and being pretty far from a match for the rear curvature. The rust Mark stickers also are not well designed or placed. These should be more around the doors and edges, but instead look unnatural. I didn't feel like we received a very detailed motor or a very smooth and polished interior and the snap in widows don't really align with tighter tolerances. I feel that the Aston Martin was more polished on a smaller scale. Also this model has some sturdiness issues, especially when just sitting on display with the barrel headlights. Lego, I know you can do better.

This is so "Expletive Deleted" AWESOME!!

I was hesitant to purchase this set at first but when I found out the rust was just decals you put on I bought it as fast as I could! It was fun building and I even moved the ladder to the correct side without any issues. I ended up putting battery powered Christmas lights inside and it looks cool in the dark.

Blast from the past!!!

I was an 80s kid and Ghostbusters is my favorite movie. So.... this was a must build set for me. Just like any other larger set, the more you get done, the more you want to just open another set of bags and keep going. My last building session was steps 9-12. I had to keep going, it was just too much fun.

Love the car...but a few small issues

This set is awesome when fully assembled but getting it there can test your patience. There were quite a few parts, some of them functional/moving, that are held together by very little and not very stable. I had to disassemble and rebuild the gunner seat mechanism 3 times because the interior parts in the door were unstable and fell apart. Finally used a small bit of double sided tape to hold it together. The rust stickers are horrible and the windows aren’t in the best shape...but it does look good assembled, would have been even better with light bricks and a siren!

Missing a bag
on October 7, 2022

I'd love to give this a better rating, but for now I can't complete the build as it's missing at least one bag. First time it's happened for me, but considering that I'll need to wait around 2 weeks (estimated) to be able to complete, and I don't know if I'm missing any more bags (since there are multiples of each number). It really takes away from the build experience.
For one of the more expensive sets, I expected better.

We're really sorry this happened. Rest assured, we'll do our best to make sure you get your missing bricks quickly, and we'll work hard to find out why this happened.

Fun set but troublesome

Ive been building sets for over 6 years. I only do the large count ones also. I looked forward to building the Ecto 1 as I am a HUGE Ghostbusters fan. While I for the most part enjoyed this set, I also was really frustrated... Everytime i moved the car to put the windows on the front bumper would pop off! Putting the backhatch door on also resulted in some clever maneuvering. One bag didn't have 2 pieces that were needed so I had to sub from other sets i had leftovers from. Overall I'm glad to have set, just wish pieces would stay together better.

Oh no! Missing pieces are rare so it's very disappointing when they happen. No need to replace with pieces from your own collection though. Please head to: LEGO.build/BricksPieces-BV where you can request free replacement parts.

Good build, instructions need redesign.

I built the ecto-1 in about 3 weeks. Took my time. It is highly detailed. The only problem I had with it is that the instructions are not that clear on where some parts go due to how they have a position on the page you cannot see really accurately where are the part is supposed to be attached. This came to be a problem in the engine area of the car. I actually had to take that section out build it separately then insert it into the spot. That positioning that is used kind of off angled and above does not show where are the parts have to be plugged in. It makes it look like it is in a different spot than where it should actually be. That is the only reason why for the buildable category I actually put it lower than a full rating.

A fantastic set with a disappointing build
on December 18, 2023

I want to start off by saying that the vehicle itself is fantastic, no complaints there. The building process…leaves something to be desired. Now, I've always been cynical of using “fun” colored bricks that aren’t visible in the finished set. But I’ve come around after building Ecto-1. In some ways this set felt like a fun throw-back, with mostly red, blue, yellow, white, black and gray bricks. But in such a big set, it quickly became repetitive. The instructions are complicated/confusing at times, in part because of the lack of different colors. This was also complicated by needing to dump out too many bricks at a time. The bags are numbered up to 11 or 12, but many cases there are two bags with the same number. I wouldn’t discourage anyone from buying this set. Ultimately, the issues listed above felt like the end of an era at LEGO, rather than something we might expect again. I wrote this review for two reasons: 1. LEGO, keep up the good work and improvements. 2. As a builder, if you have to choose between this set or, for example, the Back to the Future DeLorean…you’ll find a much more enjoyable building experience with the latter. Once they’re built though, they both offer great display and play value.
