Beautiful, colorful and very detailed!

I am a Technic fan and this es my first build on a Creation building! Don’t get me wrong, my experience goes back many years and with kits like Cinderellas Castle, Taj Mahal, Millenium Falcon, Lamborghini Sian and many other thousand element creations. This was an exception since I have read so many good reviews of this kit that decided to buy it as soon as it was made available. No regrets! Over 2,000 elements, highly detailed and complex enough to keep me busy for a few days. I took, like always, my sweet old time, not rushing, but enjoying hours of building it. I do not accounted for the hours it took me to build, but they were long enough to turn into more than a week. Colorful in its design; intricate in its formation. The design of the three floors is just a work of art; the decor on the external front awnings and the way the tilling is designed to fit and display, just ingenious. Details like the commodes, the toilet paper dispensers, the jail inside, the donut shop: what an ingenious and realistic touch! We all connect policemen/policewomen with coffee and donuts! The news stand! Just wonderful and beautiful. The instruction book, well black pages would not be my first choice, but like most things in life, I guess will have to get used to them. That is our new reality, unless... Missing parts are still annoying! On this kit I had 3 missing parts that I had to order but thanks to my personal inventory, I was able to finish the build. Missing parts have been my main problem in the past builds, one that caused me to return a whole kit! On the other hand, there are always a lot of left over parts, usually small but in some instances in larga amounts! I am including a foto of my left over. Clear plastic parts: this seems to be an issue that comes up every now and then and there is a very simple solution. As they are packed in Lego and arrive to us in the many plastic bags, they arrive virtually undamaged, my experience. Mostly, they are damaged as we move them around searching parts to build the kit. What I do is, as I empty the bags, if I see any window or door frames, I search for the clear plastic and set them aside so they wont get scratched as I move the other parts around. It helps a bit. Tools, well my finger are a bit tired and swollen, so picking up small parts can some times be challenging, to say the least. For that purpose, I got from a veterinary friend of mine, a disposed set of surgical tweezers and using some very small heat shrink tubing, covered the ends so they would not scratch the small plastic bricks. They work perfectly! Of course, the Lego brick separator tool is a must! Price, well, if consider amount of research, development, engineering, amount of bricks, instructions book printing and production price, packing, box prep and printing and free shipping, I am very happy with the kit, it’s outcome, building experience and price! Enjoy your build! Oh! I forgot, we celebrate all seasons and all Holidays, that is why you can see a mantle with hearts: this February, month of Saint Valentine!!!!

Too easy to build
on January 7, 2021

This set is totally fine but it is way too easy to build. My toddler was helping me build it all the way and it was no trouble for him. I myself thought that it might be indetween the difficulty of a Lego Juniors set and Lego City set. I think that this product would fit better in a Juniors section. Thankie for readin!!

A lackluster modular design.
on January 5, 2021

I've been collecting the modulars since its introduction in 2007 and, as of late, there seems to be a direction the designers have taken that has radically redefined the series. Albeit, change can definitely be a good thing, but it seems they were more focused on making decisions just for the heck of it rather than applying it methodically. From the removal of the classic minifigure heads to the use of wacky colors, the line has been gradually stripped away from its more sophisticated and classic approach. There used to be a focus on designing a main building and making that the standalone design. The designers now lack a focal point and seem to just want to cram in everything they can. The police station loses its grandeur with the oddly placed side buildings. I found it bothersome that they cut into the floor plan at the ground level to fit in room for the donut shop. I get it, donuts and coppers, but that joke is tired and old. The green building on the side is mainly the prison cell. Why couldn't that be incorporated into the main building? Why not make the police station larger and have the jail cell in it? Remove the newspaper stand and include.... a police vehicle? The size of the donut shop is way larger than needs to be. Why is there a bedroom on the second floor? That was so odd. The color of the donut shop also draws away attention from the police station as a whole. It's the first thing you notice when you look at it from far. The use of tan bricks for the police station was a poor choice. We had that for the Grand Emporium and why not take the opportunity to introduce perhaps a new shade of grey? The details on the exterior are fine, but nothing architecturally striking. The interior has some fine details, but overall is cramped compared to some of the older modulars and leaves a lot to be desired. The story-driven play feature is there, but is not as creative as the ones we saw in the Detective's office and Brick Bank. The minifigures are ok and fit the modular for what it is. The rest of the surrounding details are basic modular faire and if you've collected any of the previous modulars it's nothing out of the ordinary. I get my review won't be very popular with some of the newer fans of the series who seem to be swept away by everything LEGO puts out these days, but for those of us who've been around to see them devolve it's just another sad realization that the series we fell in love with is no longer the same.

why so much corruption?
on August 18, 2023

The creator expert/icon/modular, builds have wonderfully neat. This one was not as neat. The (english) directions are printed on black paper. One, it hard to see the details of each step against a really dark background. Two, why is there also so much corruption build into the idea of lego police builds? I get it, life is like that. But maybe it doesn’t have to be…when playing or building (either as kid or an adult) the pretend that experience is half of the thrill. Why does someone always HAVE to be stealing or running or whatever other nonsense that I would have to pretend to be? (If my buddy is the cop then I have to the robber. this theme is constant in the all the police builds from city for +5 to Expert +18 ages. In terms of just building, it’s a neat build. the details are interesting. Some day I would like to redesign these advanced builds so they actually can show these amazing details…I have thoughts. I hope you do too. Keep building, lego friends.

Safety Concerns
on February 14, 2021

I got this set to give to my 10 year old grandson who is good at building LEGOs. He liked it a lot and said that it wasn't too hard to build, but as I was watching him build it he accidentally got a LEGO stuck up in his nose. I think that LEGO needs to put a warning on the box about that, so that children who play with this will be more safe. Until then I can't give LEGOs to my grandson with a clear mind. If LEGO puts that warning on the box, I'll probably get my grandson the Creator Expert Rollercoaster next.

Police station
on January 27, 2021

Over all good set, worth the money. Wish they thought it out a little more. Bedroom makes no sense and really annoyed me...even my wife immediately asked “so he has to climb a ladder to get in his house? Why is there an apartment in a police station?” I get the use of the trap under the bed, but still. Donut shop and newsstand got lots of tiny details, but the police station just got a couple desks and some toilets (the clue board is a nice touch).
