TurboTax is convenient but has bugs

The program still feels like the original dos version even though it's officially a Windows program. It doesn't provide enough info re the specific entries requested. There were several dead ends near the end of the program. It asks for drivers lic# and then dead ends. Later by using the help function it's learned that the step can be skipped, though it was necessary to scan through a number of "replies" to find this tidbit.

Cumbersome

Entering the initial information using either Step by Step or my choosing the section is OK but when you go back to check, audit, or edit you have to re-enter many of the answers when they should be already saved.

Like the improvements to TurboTax

I have been using TurboTax for many, many years and have always received a refund. Because I hate doing my taxes, I procrastinate as long as possible and almost always need an extension and then some additional time to get it filed. Although for many years, I used the "Home & Business" version, I now use the Deluxe version. This is the first year in many years that I filed electronically - I managed to get all the information needed for the various forms including itemized deductions together in less than 24 hours. I like the changes from several years ago when I also filed electronically, that make filing electronically very easy. Hopefully next year I will do everything by February. TurboTax actually makes it very easy for procrastinators like me to file electronically. And it remembers everything from prior years no matter how late your file.

The software is good and easy enough to use and navigate. However, the incessant push and demand for additional payment for e-filing in today's electronic universe suggests severe corporate tone-deafness.

No red flag for Roth IRA contributions above AGI!

I have been using TurboTax for many years and have been generally very happy with the product. I like that I can prepare and electronically file several family members' taxes with one product. However, I am very disappointed that TurboTax did not alert me that my Roth IRA contribution was over the amount I was allowed to contribute given by AGI. I mean they have my AGI and when I input my Roth IRA contribution, bells and whistles should go off!!! All it tells you is you are over income threshold for deductibility, but not eligibility. Because of this, I had to recharacterize several contributions, pay 6% penalty for several years and amend returns. I even read the "info" box and it tells you how much you can contribute but does NOT tell you there is an income threshold for Roth IRA. Maybe I was supposed to know this already? Very very disappointed as cost me $1,600 to fix the mistake and very painful paperwork. Shame on the programmers of TurboTax!

long time user but upset this year when i tried to efile my state return i was unable to and the program did not like that and i had to get back to the state forms to send them - it was very awkward. not enough of an excuse to say not available on the last day of filing -

Turbo Tax disappointed me this year. They closed the state e-filing ON THE DEADLINE DATE! HOW RIDICULOUS IS THAT! I will not be purchasing Turbo Tax Again.
